Back the Future Part 2: Great follow up
For those of us that were alive during the first Back to the Future, the idea of every movie franchise needing a trilogy was relatively unknown. I don't know who did it first but for some reason over time it has become the norm.
It follows up on the story of Back to the Future part one obviously and they go the opposite way in time, errr, this time. Marty (Michael J. Fox) gets told by Doc (Christopher Lloyd) that he must go to the future to sort out his kids who have for whatever reason screwed up the space/time continuum - which is ironic because Doc is meant to be an expert on the space/ time continuum and his own involvement in it constantly a problem in screwing up precisely what he lectures other about.
So anyway, they go to the future ( a time period which is already behind us, by the way) in order for Marty to try to sort out his future family in the distant future time of 2015. I know it has become a bit of a cliche at this point but everyone in 2015 seemed to have a hoverboard and I never got mine
The really wonderful thing about part 2 is that the only thing that is of any consequence about them being in the future at all is that Biff overhears them talking about time-travel and actually uses the time-machine to go back in time to change the future to his benefit by virtue of sports gambling.
If they simply hadn't gone to the future in the first place, none of this would have been necessary. Biff would have never gotten the book and everything would have been the way it is supposed to be. I suppose that is what Doc was trying to say in the first place. Don't f$&k with the space/time continuum.
Over all i would say that part 2 is my second favorite of the entire franchise and is DEFINITELY worth watching. I have seen it 20 times and would gladly watch it again.
If you haven't seen any of the films... seriously, you need to get started... because they are awesome.
(my rating is intentionally withheld. )
Trilogies are an old thing. For example, "Frankenstein" was followed by "Bride of Frankenstein" and "Son of Frankenstein" in the thirties.
But in the modern era, it is the three original Star Wars films that made trilogies a thing. Those films changed filmmaking forever, from "here's an intersting idea" to here's a franchise, complete with sequels and toys and comics and novels and theme park rides. From Star Wars on, this was the mecca for the film business, for good and for bad.
"Back to the Future" is one of my favorite trilogies, as it's the first trilogy I saw entirely in the cinema. And I loved it.
While Part 2 can in no way match the absolute magic and wonder of part 1, it was definitely the second best episode, and was a roller-coaster ride of fun from start to finish.
"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is arguably inspired by this film, with the Potterheads using a Time Turner to creep around after themselves in the earlier timeline. :)
going back to the future is a disney classic if you've seen it 20 times I think I've seen it more than you. Seeing this movie would make me think a lot about what it would be like if one could go back in time and change our life maybe it would be better for us in the present. This is something intriguing because at that time I dream for traveling not to the past but to the future.
'Back to the Future Part II' takes off where the first movie left. Pretty much the essence of the first one is present except this time Elisabeth Shue has been cast as Marty's girlfriend. Like the first movie, this one too is non-stop fun. The original plot once again, brilliantly revolves around the time-travelling paradox but this time the interference with the time-line has huger repercussions that are more complicated to solve. It's slightly a little more complex than the first movie but the energy and entertainment level is the same. I liked Zemeckis's version of 2015. It has that ultracool look and the futuristic gadgets and gizmos were quite amusing. The soundtrack is equally wild. The camera-work and special effects are very well done considering that the challenge was greater (e.g. showing two Michael J. Fox on the same screen). Okay, so showing the same actor share the screen with himself isn't anything new but in most movies/shows it looks poorly done which is not the case here. With most movies, the sequel tends to be a let down but 'Back to the Future Part II' is a great continuation of the first film.
One of the few that pulled it off. I remember watching first blood and before we knew it we had Rambo 5 lol. I think it was the producers realizing what they had and thought of milking the success one more time.
Well, Rambo 4 was better than 3. Maybe there's still hope. Maybe.
But First blood was better and that was the first one. Very few can pull it off. Look at Taken with Liam Neeson. Kind of wrecked it.
Some movies just age well. Back to the future is one great example for that. And btw, i saw a real hoverboard at F1 french GP a few weeks ago. So these things are coming :D
I am one of those who never watched these films. I had heard about it but travelling to future meant a bit childish and irrelevant so I didn't opt for watching any. But now after hearing the story and what the film is about, I will watch it. Glad you shared it with me.
