THE PARTITION OF PALESTINE
On Nov. 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for Palestine to be partitioned between Arabs and Jews, allowing for the formation of the Jewish state of Israel

THE SIX DAY WAR
The Six-Day War, also known as the June War, 1967 Arab–Israeli War, or Third Arab–Israeli War, was fought between June 5 and 10, 1967 by Israel and the neighboring states of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.

The 1973 Arab-Israeli War
The 1973 Arab-Israeli War was a watershed for U.S. foreign policy toward the Middle East. It forced the Nixon administration to realize that Arab frustration over Israel’s unwillingness to withdraw from the territories it had occupied in 1967 could have major strategic consequences for the United States. The war thus paved the way for Secretary of State Henry Kissinger’s “shuttle diplomacy” and ultimately, the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty of 1979.

RISE OF THE PALESTINE LIBERATION ORGANIZATION (PLO)
The main lines of the PLO's turbulent story, including the many bloody events in which its factions have been involved, can be followed in this book by a novelist and publicist who has made a specialized study of terrorism. Much of it is based on extensive investigation and rings true. But the background history loses reliability by oversimplification, the author has strong feelings of her own, and the PLO is presented only as a terrorist outfit, never as a political expression or reflection of the Palestinian condition.

THE INTIFADA (1987 TO 1993)
Conditions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including Jerusalem, after more than 20 years of military occupation, repression and confiscation of land, contributed to a Palestinian uprising called the intifada in December 1987. Between 1987 and 1993, over 1,000 Palestinians were killed and thousands injured, detained, imprisoned in Israel or deported from the Palestinian territories.

THE PEACE PROCESS
The peace process in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict refers to intermittent discussions held during the ongoing violence which has prevailed since the beginning of the conflict.

Kerry-led talks: 2013–14
Mitchell-led talks: 2010–11
Agreement on Movement and Access: 2005
Oslo Accords: 1993 / 95
Camp David Accords: 1978
Camp David Summit (parameters): 2000
Madrid Conference: 1991

THE DRIVE FOR RECOGNITION OF PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD
In a speech on September 16, 2011, Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian National Authority, declared his intention to proceed with the request for recognition of statehood from both the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council. On September 23, 2011, President Abbas delivered the official application for recognition of a Palestinian State to the United Nations Secretary General. Numerous issues remain to be settled by Israelis and Palestinians, however, before an independent state of Palestine emerges. Negotiations are ongoing.

We need peace between Israeli and the Palestinians

This is a terrible, difficult problem to solve.

I think this post is great! People don't really know why both are at war and simply make assumptions or repeat what others say without really getting into it themselves! Very informative.

For those who are interested in history like I am, a good book going into the lesser known history of the formation of Israel called "The Transfer Agreement" by Edwin Black is a good read. He also has some extended talks on youtube if you prefer that. I recommend the C-Span book club talk. Keep up the good work, good post.
