5 Firefox add-ons to protect your Privacy

in #security9 years ago (edited)

Part of Firefox's appeal stems from its powerful add-ons system, which  allows users to install plug-ins that add to the browser's  functionality. Here are 5 extensions that will protect your surfing experience.

1. uBlock origin

An efficient blocker for Firefox and Chromium. Fast and lean.

2.  NoScript

Only enable JavaScript, Java, and Flash for sites you trust.

3.  Decentraleyes

Protects you against tracking through "free", centralized, content delivery.

It prevents a lot of requests from reaching networks like Google Hosted Libraries, and serves local files to keep sites from breaking.

Complements regular content blockers.

4.  Privacy Badger

Tracking blocker that tries to learn who is spying on you and then blocks these ads and invisible trackers.

5.  HTTPS Everywhere

Encrypts your communications from thousands of websites by enforcing HTTPS everywhere.

I am most comfortable with Firefox and use many add ons. But 4 out of 5 in this list was new to me. Will check them out. Thank You!

Great , it's going to be (hopefully) a new experience.
Going to post some more Privacy related content soon.
Take care

I have been using Ad Block Plus for quite a while and find it extremely useful.

Ad Block Plus doesn't Block all Ads it has a Ad Whitelist (unlike uBlock) !

Ghostery is also not recommended (Disconnect is atm ok AFAIK)

Ghostery is owned by Evidon, a company that collects and provides data to advertising companies. It has a feature called GhostRank that you can check to "support" them. The problem is, Ghostery blocks sites from gathering personal information on you—but Ghostrank will take note the ads you encounter and which ones you block, and sends that information back to advertisers so they can better formulate their ads to avoid being blocked. The data is anonymous, and Ghostery still does everything it promises to do to protect your privacy.

Random Agent Spoofer is a useful tool for hiding your IP, as well as spoofing your browser fingerprint:
