Warren Buffett + Gold + Mene 24k

Recently the Berkshire Hathaway annual letter was released.

Warren Buffett is one of the richest people in the word, and he is a superstar long term investor. I generally have great respect for him both as an investor and a person.

BUT

For some reason Warren Buffett HATES gold. (Even though he made quite a bit of money with silver back in the day).

I guess nobody is perfect.

He has said many times over the course of his incredible career how he does not think gold is worth buying and gives a multitude of reasons why.

I respectfully disagree with Mr. Buffett and it’s my belief that he doesn’t understand that gold is MONEY and not to be compared with something like the stock market, even though there is this:

I wholeheartedly agree with Roy here.

It is unrealistic to use the metrics that Buffett talks about in his annual letter with respect to the stock market about would be impossible to achieve his example given the entropic nature of the stock market.

As a simple example, of the 30 original DOW components, there are 0 left in the index. GE, the last original component, was just recently kicked out making the index today look literally nothing like its original version.

On the other hand an oz of gold today is the same ounce it was 30 years ago, 77 years ago, 5000 years ago.

This is about the only thing I’m ever going to tell you listen to me over Buffett for with regards to investing:)
