Ulog 99: THIS Is Why I Grow My Own Food

in #powerhousecreatives5 years ago (edited)

When people ask me why I bother to grow my own food, take the time to dehydrate or can it, purchase meat from a local farmer or butcher, articles such as this are the reason why.

Rocks!

That's a new one! Makes me wonder how it was discovered and if someone had an astronomical dental bill because they bit down into this burrito for breakfast one day.

From salmonella in the country's romaine lettuce to E.coli in ground beef and burger to all the other heath concerns that are floating among big corporations, packaging warehouses and proper food storage before it reaches your grocery store or family's dinner plate; it is a SCARY food world out there!

Just for the month of June (2019) there have already been six recalls for food: from these breakfast burritos to Tyson Foods, Inc. Recalls Ready-To-Eat Chicken Fritter Products that had bits of plastic in the food.

THIS is crazy!

At least when I grow and preserve my own food, I know what it is on and what isn't.

Keep in mind, home canning has its flaws too. Under pressurized can cause botulism cracked jars can create a whole new turmoil, but when you are canning food for your family, you tend to take extra precautions with preparing it, being clean about it and making sure to follow guidelines for approved foods.

I am so surprised that you didn't get a flood of comments here my friend.
Making one's own food is an age old tradition and may that it never dies out.
At the moment we can't, as renting on short term contracts, but as soon as we get our own place the gardening and food prep will start again.
A great and important post here.
Blessings!

Here here @goldendawne! I find that growing my own as well as foraging to always be the preferred option. We recently had a series of food recalls over here in the UK related top repacked sandwiches... prepackaged sandwich’s.. something that always makes me scratch my head sort of like buying pregrated cheese does. I guess laziness will always be a risk to health though no matter what form it takes. Awesome post, and as always upvoted and resteemed. :)

wow you are very right in what you pose, I think I will also start to grow my own food

We have been made afraid of the food we produce ourselves, as if processed food is somehow safer. I'm glad you have found the opposite to be true. It's a lot of work in the kitchen, and far less work at doctors appointments and time lost to illness.

I'd love to grow my own food if I had somewhere to grow it
