Ulog 83: It's Amazing What One Month Can Do
It has been one month since Mr Golden D has had his heart attack and life on the homestead never stopped; just some of my chores were put back a few days... or weeks.
most of my gardening, which has just began for the season, weren't in full swing yet, but some of my herbs in the garden from last year were beginning to grow. And grow they did...
This first image was my lemon balm from April 22 (the morning of his heart attack) as I was planning on writing a pre-garden post that week. But I never got around to it as you can tell.
Well, now that he is home and has recovered nicely, I have been getting the garden ready. I cleaned some flower, herb and plant beds, got some seedlings into the ground and had to harvest an early crop of lemon balm.
I forgot to take an image of the lemon balm plant before I began harvesting, but as you can see in the second image, I ended up with an abundance of the fragrant herb so much that it filled a large dishpan... TWICE!! Yup... I had to make two dishpans full of this wonderful herb. The herb is hanging in my gardening and homesteading room right now as I'm in no rush, or need the herb anytime soon. I still have a quart jar filled from last fall.
New Kitchen Additions Arrived Over Last Few Weeks Too
The weekend before Mr Golden D was in the hospital I had ordered a few kitchen gadgets and never had a chance to really use them, or share them on my page.
These are just two of them. I ordered the Waterless Airlock Fermentation Lids for Wide Mouth Mason Jars so I could experiment with some new flavors for my lacto-fermented sodas (I don't want to make a HUGE batch and find out I don't like the flavor) as I am 100% off soda pop YAY ME! And these lids can help me achieve that.
I also bought a Chopper and Vegetable Slicer to assist me when I want to can potatoes, chop a large batch of onions or other vegetable, etc.
Not shown in the image are:
- Stainless Steel Melting Pot & double boiler
- 100-feet of Food Saver Bag rolls
- 100cc Oxygen Absorbers for Long Term Food Storage (200 count)
- A ten-cup stove top percolator coffee pot
Glad to hear Mr Golden D is on the mend! Heart attacks are scary - years ago, my mother (who was living with us at the time) had one, but luckily my hubby happened to stay home from work that day, and was able to get her help quickly. That was over 20 years ago, and she's still doing well.
Nice new gadgets for your kitchen! Now you've got me thinking - somewhere, I used to have my grandmothers stove top coffee peculator. I'm going to have to look around and see if I can find it again - as I recall, it made some yummy java!

Glad your hubby is doing well @goldendawne. What a scare! You will loooooove that chopper, I have one and use it when making salsa (so I don't have to chop mega onion, peppers and hot peppers, lol) The fermenting lids will be wonderful as well:) Good to see your garden is thriving already this spring.
