Tribesteemup Question: What Does Being Aware Mean To Me?

What Awareness Means to Me: Answering the TribeSteemUp Bi-Weekly Question
There are different levels and consciousnesses of being aware.
- Self
- Spatial
- Health
- Community
- Civil
- Universal
- Global
For this post I am going to focus on self and (my) spatial because for me, these two go hand-in-hand in my life and world.
To be aware you have to know about your surroundings; whether where your back up candles and batteries are located in case of an electrical power outage so you don't bump into furniture while searching or even knowing who is a regular person in your neighborhood.
I am a self-proclaimed introvert and homebody. If there is ever a reason I can find to NOT leave the homestead, I will find it and use the reason to justify my staying home. I do go out to do errands; usually once a week if I can manage it.
I like my home.
I like being here.
I like feeling safe.
I like having a schedule.
I don't like crowds of people.
I don't like traffic.
I don't like spontaneity.
I don't like to be away from home as I feel discombobulated too easily.
I prefer to be where I know my environment, the conditions of the environment and any situation that may be forthcoming.
If someone is on my property, I am aware as we have motion sensors, a very loud barking dog (who also doesn't like to be social with strangers) and many windows to see from every vantage point of our property's four corners.
Not only do I know where every personal belonging is inside my home, but I can also tell you exactly where every garden shovel, tool or speck of anything we own is located at a moment's notice outside.
OCD should have been my middle name.
Once I had been gone for a few hours running the never-ending errands off the property and Mr Golden D stayed home as he was recovering from a surgery. When I came home and out away all the things I had purchased, I headed off to the bedroom and bathroom to change and get into my work clothes when I noticed something was different in the bedroom. I had barely taken two steps into the bedroom when I spotted something out of place. I immediately HONED in and saw my husband's prescription bottle was moved from where I had left it earlier; meaning he had taken this post-surgical medication and left the bottle in a new place. Two hours alter when he was unsure if he had taken his assigned-timed pill, I verified he had. He was skeptical and counted the pills. He saw I was correct and asked me how I knew when I hadn't been home. I smiled and said he left the bottle on the large dresser and not the nightstand where I had left it.
I was AWARE he had moved the bottle; which could only mean he had taken the pill as needed on time and, luckily, knowing the misplaced bottle had been moved and the pill consumed could have saved him from accidentally taking more pain medication then he had been prescribed- which we all know can result in devastating results.
Safe & Private On The Homestead
Why do I feel safe on our homestead?
- I keep to myself and am observant of others around
- I am a private person who only shares what I WANT others to know about me
- I know every inch of my surroundings in and outdoors
- I have two handguns (both 9mms) that I know how to load, shoot, clean and care for with safety always in mind
- I have control over what happens in my little world on the homestead

I tend to keep things here on the homestead out of the eye of others; aside from the garden, which is difficult to hide. On that note, no one here knows about my special indoor garden as I don't advertise it and keep everything related to it quiet (heck, my parents and children don't even know).
I have learned... the less people know about you, the better off you are.

Am of the believe that its the level of our insecurity that heightens our consciousness and thereby transforming us into an introvert who never wants to let our thoughts and feelings out.
I wish I didn't have to leave the homestead as often as I do. I'm guessing that, like me, this was less of an option for you when your children were still dependant. You deal with facing the world and crowds because you have to for their sake.
“Be aware, stay awake” - Buddha. I am also aware of my surroundings and I use awareness as a form of meditation. For me being aware means to be mindful of the present moment, to truly live the moment. 😊
