Royal Canadian Mint's Zentangle Coins
I stopped buying RCMs high premium offerings. Honestly they just put out too many coins and the secondary market isn't very strong for most of thier coins. Couple that with the incredibly high costs and I just can't buy them anymore..that doesn't mean I don't see some and want them!
This is a 2 oz silver piece. It's the Zentangle wolf. Zentangle is a creative process that combines lines and swirls to create an image
The wolf is the first coin in this new series that came out in 2017. I couldn't find a picture that does it justice but I have seen it at my local coin store and it's a fantastic design! Here's a example of the Zentangle artwork..
Today I came across the second coin in the series, the owl. Man I love it and I'm trying to restrain myself from purchasing it. It's got a capped mintage at 4000 pieces
Spectacular eh?
For this 2 oz piece with a $30 face value the retail price is $174.00 Canadian. They aren't cheap and the price is keeping me from starting this collection because I just have too much on the go and I have to spend my pennies on other stuff.
Let me know what you think of the Zentangle art pieces in the comments? Anyone reading this have one because I'd love to see it in a post!
Cheers,
Is there any extra value in the artwork? Like do certain coins cost more because they are more intricate, and if they cost more, do they sell for more? Or is all value wrapped up in the coin's metal, purity and weight?
Do you buy coins used? Do you only buy new? I'd like to start buying metals but I want to shop for discounts if possible. Any tips?
These are more collectable pieces whereas most of the stuff I buy is lower cost bullion pieces sold more closely to the metals value.
Gotcha.
Exquisite artwork which gives life to the animals, especially the owl. The eyes of the owl seems to pop out of the coin!
Yeah they are great designs that look even better in person. Thx for checking out my post! 👊😎
Very nice pieces, but i cant imagine paying that type of a premium for them.
I do like this style of art, and would buy at a smaller (much smaller) premium, but those prices are just prohibitive.
Nice share though for sure!!!
Yeah far too much $ for me. I have bought some of RCMs really high premium pieces before but I'm done with them now. Thx for the look Mike 😎👍
Gorgeous coins GA! But at $90 per ounce i think i’d rather stack krugerrand’s and have some change left over for the green stuff 🍆🕺
110%
👊
Those are so stunning. Maybe put them on your Santa list and one will magically show up Christmas morning paid for with someone else’s $$. 😉
Smart lady! Haha
They're pretty coins and it's nice that the mintage is so low, but are they really worth $174? Maybe eventually, but probably not now. Your call, but I don't think I would be getting them.
These coins are amazing! I will certainly collect them, but not now. In a year or two I will find them on the Internet for a reasonable price. It happened with so many Canadian coins that I bought...
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
I really like those coins! I feel like these coins are "pretty" enough where my wife wouldn't yell at me as loudly as if I purchased some "less pretty" coins for the same/similar price.... Hmmmmm
That wolf's snout just pops out at me :)
Wow,love the art, it's similar to the Mandalas I do in some ways. The RCM does make some amazing coins, but their prices are getting more and more ridiculous and a lot of them are pretty kitschy, some of them look like an 9 year old girl was let loose with a Bedazzler...lol I do think my "Canada Mandala" would look pretty good on an RCM coin though lol
