Splinterland maggots

in #splinterlands5 years ago

This week's Splinterlands battle challenge theme is Maggots.

My maggots card is only level 4 and because it has only 2 health and 2 speed I don't often play it because of the low health and other options available in the Death Deck.

I have played a level 6 Maggots before and really like the opportunity combined with scavenge. Scavenge is an awesome ability that adds 1 health point every time a monster dies.

Today I had the Dragon Quest and came across a set of rules where I figured I would try to use the opportunity ability of my maggots to my advantage. The battle was against @hanzek and can be found here

Rule was Taking Sides.

With a 21 mana cap

Taking Sides: Neutral Monsters may not be used in battles.

Summoner Selection:

In this battle I had to use a dragon summoner and I choose the Death splinter as my second splinter. I decided to use Daria as she has the lowest cost summoner that allows me to use my monsters at level.

Monster Selection

1rst Position: I choose the Haunted Spirit because of the 5 mana cost and the abilities it has. Heal is an awesome ability for a tank because it restores a portion of the monsters health every round. The haunted Spirit also has magic reflect which is useful against an earth deck as there are a bunch of magic monsters in an earth deck.

2nd position: I used my maggots because I like the opportunity ability and with a base melee of 2 +1 from Daria I figured 3 melee against my opponents weakest monster would help me out.

3rd position: I put Divine Healer in this position to protect my other 2 ranged monsters. Twisted Jester in this position acts like a tank for snipe damage and gives 3 snipe damage to my opponents.

4th Position:
I choose the Haunted Spider here because it has 2 ranged and poison. I am really a big fan of the Haunted Spirit's poison and the damage it gives every turn.

5th Position
I picked the undead archer because it has affliction that prevents my opponents from healing.

Conclusion:
Most of my strategy worked very well for this battle, although the Maggots did not last as long as I thought they would. The maggots got taken out very early in the game and acted more as a meat shield against my opponents Screeching Vultures so my other monsters could give good damage.

Esteem. I do all posts, comments and likes through esteem.

Hm. I removed my auto vote and we'll go back to doing it the old fashioned way.

I agree. Once leveled this is probably pretty hardcore. I'm generally finding (when I play) I don't know what squishies or kinda squishy monsters I should put around my heavy hitters and why. I always feel like I know what tank to use... but with so many other cards for the other positions----🤯
I think this taking a blow or two and even getting a hit off is pretty good for the mana.
And maggots are slow- THANK GOD! Can you image? A speedy maggot? The horror!
