Job Interviews can really destroy your self worth
This morning I had an interview with a big Austrian irrigation company that was looking for a pump expert to come and look after the QLD and NSW market.
Obviously this is something that I'm well qualified for as I've been doing pumps and pump systems for about 13years now, mostly in the mining sector though.
Throughout the entire interview I was being told how my mining experience doesn't count for squat and irrigation is a whole different ball game. Well thanks asshole, I think I know this
Then it got to the stock standard interview questions, and I was asked my biggest achievement in working so far. To me personally, running a $2 Million dollar job for Rio Tinto was a pretty huge achievement. If you know what its like working for Rio you'd understand.
But then he asks another questions, and makes a snide remark "Are we going to keep coming back to your mining achievements?"
So at this points I know a) I haven't got the job, and b) I'd be telling him to jam it up his ass anyway
I know interviews are meant to find out about the person, but theres no reason to treat them like crap and belittle them.
Interviews can suck.
When it comes to background knowledge, I've always preferred capable quick learners to a slow learner coming in with the "right" experience.
100% agree. The right experience generally leads to problems in that they are kinda crap at their job, or they are so ingrained in their way to do things, that it doesn't work out.
Good attitude can be molded and create a great employee.

Can smell problems there thats for sure.
You should tell them that you were also new to that firm once and that you come to that position not because of experience but because of your ability to adapt in new situations ;)
And fck them, there is a better position waiting for you.

One time I had an interview with BASF for an agronomist position. Six hours with 45min interviews with six different people. I got a lot of organic agriculture experience and one of the guys started asking why organics. I began to explain to him their business plan of how in a mono culture it is insured problems that they can fix with chemicals and that organics is more in balance due to its diversity, hence less chemicals. I like using less chemicals on the food I want to sell. Long story short I didn't get that position even though they flew me from Spain to US the day before for the interview, maybe the jetlag prevented from being at my best.
I hope you find what you are looking for, usually a bad interview prepares you for the great one. You probably would of hated working for those douches anyways.

Sounds like you skipped a bullet and found out about the wankers they have working there before it was too late!
I have been on both sides of that interview desk and it costs nothing to be polite.
It's better their crappy attitude became apparent in the interview itself otherwise you'd be stuck working with/for jerks.
