"Underworld: Awakening" by Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein - movie review

in #godflesh6 years ago (edited)

I had a tremendous desire for "Underworld" to like it. Honestly! I did not expect anything different from what the first movies were offering - mindless fun and aesthetic delight in the extremely sexy Kate Beckinsale - but I was still disappointed. The film starts with a brief retelling of the events to the point that ends with the capture of Seline, which is enclosed in a cryogenic chamber. Twelve years later, she wakes up in a whole new world in which people are aware of the existence of the immortals and try to destroy them in any way.

She is disoriented and confused, and her situation is further complicated by her strange telepathic relationship with a freed new hybrid - a little girl who "holds the key" for "curing" both vampires and laicans. The only thing Seline wants to know is what happened to her beloved Michael, who has no trace of it, as well as finding some peace of mind. But what you want and what you get is two different things and soon it is at the center of a new war. I can easily describe the "Underworld" as an extended trailer to the inevitable fifth part. Just like in a trailer, the story is thrown in two, at three, as if you are unclear with the main direction of the narrative, and the individual heroes - even those who we know hell like Seline - are represented to mark their presence without any experience for depth and motivation.

In other words, huge holes filled with "logic" type "things are such because they are," and the most important thing is to get from point A to point B. Here someone would say that this also applies to previous series, and we could not expect anything else, but there was at least some narrative logic in them. But hey, who cares about such things if there's a good deal of action and effects? Right? So. As for this department, we have one or two good episodes that look decent, but it's all about recycling old ideas and nothing to remember. In light of the film's dazzling styling, energetic fitting, and the dynamics of battles, it is rather a serious minus, because, because of the further darkening of the picture, everything is dark. If you hit a movie that saves your projectors, the situation is tragic.

Still, in all the work, there is something I like. I was extremely dissatisfied with the fact that the conflict between the vampires and the laicans has been left behind in the face of the interference of the people, perhaps in the name of some hypothetical development. In the movie, however, we are witnessing a sort of reversal that returns the story to familiar rails (perhaps not 100% but still) and the hopes are that in the inevitable fifth part we will have a classic crash just decorated with a human element. For the finale, all I will say is that while I was disappointed, much of the people I was talking about the movie were pleased with what they saw and about them, it was completely in line with the previous films. So if you're fans of the series, give him an eye. It's never known, maybe you like it.

This movie is such a 2000's movie. People in dark leathers in dark places fighting to rave songs. Makes me wanna watch Blade for some reason :D

This is good film.... and cool thing is this... since this movie was started with very low budget .... I do not remember this number but it was very small, which shows me that many other films have been overpaid what is is done today in film world.
