Nikolai Vassilevich Gogol is one of the most mysterious writers in the Golden Fund of World Literature. His genius "Dead Souls" has become a sign of the decline of public morals. Was misanthrope the mystical Ukrainian? Gogol dies very young - only 42, and his works are a psychological dissection of human nature with the depth of insights of a sage-centenarian. Gogol's life passed into constant nightmares and fears. Some literary writers believe that the writer was suffering from some mental illness, others - that he was mentally unstable but not ill. He was an amazing workaholic who fed his brain with a constant jamming of something sweet. Literally as a toddler, he was addicted to sugar. By nature, they describe him as a shy and complex who feared the fear of strangers. Especially nightmare was the last years of his life. On a trip to Rome he was infected with malaria. He survived, but with his other strangeness and gloomy states, he added new - he began to suffer from sudden seizures with visions. In 1850, while literally reading in front of a narrow circle of friends in the second volume of Dead Souls, he suddenly became gloomy and told aloud that he was feeling his ... near death. His listeners, who had been laughing at the moment, literally stared at them. Of course, it takes a long time - about two years, from that speech to the death of Gogol in 1852, but everyone present that night will later comment the sharp change in the mood of the writer.

His death is also peculiar. Historians say that a year before the fatal February night in 1852, Gogol was self-indulging in hunger, explaining that he was "chasing the devil by himself." As a result of starvation, his body was exhausted to the extreme. On the night of his death, he gave himself to prayer, and then asked for the manuscripts to be brought to him, and he brought out a portion of them that he left behind, and the rest commanded to burn. Then you went to bed and cried. According to the servants, he had said, "I will continue to laugh through tears!" Death came to him in his sleep. After the writer's death, the second part of Dead Souls disappears. That's why it's supposed to have made her burn on that last night ... What kind of life has this genius writer lived? - He was born in a village near Poltava, in present-day Ukraine, on April 1, 1809. a new style/ . His native family is Yanovski and belongs to an old Ukrainian family, a descendant of the Cossack Ostap Gogol, from where comes the literary name of the writer. Nikolay Vassilevich Gogol's father was a very educated man and also had a literary gift - he wrote briefs and wrote for a limited circle of friends.

Unfortunately he was dying when his son is only 15 years old. Besides Nikolay, the old Vasily Gogol had 11 more children. After his death, the huge family remains on the shoulders of his twice younger wife, Gogol's mother, Ivanovna Ivanovna. Future writer Nikolai Gogol is the third child in the family. He leaves his native home at 19. He departed for St. Petersburg and initially planned to support himself as an actor, but appeared to be too shy for a scene.
