What Is Depression?
Depression is a common and serious medical condition that effects how you feel, the way you think and how you react. Fortunately, it is still treatable.
When someone you love is suffering from depression, you want to be there for that person every step of the way. However, bear in mind it takes more than just a shoulder to cry on..you have to be involved.. supportive and ensure they feel loved.
You see, a close friend of mine had been diagnosed with depression eversince she got divorced. It hurts to see her going through hard times.. crying.. blaming herself..hurting herself and some days she just wish she is DEAD. We have been friends since 1998, yes almost 20 years. We do not call or considered ourselves like best friends but we are sisters
Going through with her all these years of suffering from depression is tough for me but you can imagine how it feels when you are in her shoes..its even more tough for her to handle. I am proud and glad to say I have no regrets because I am there for her most of the time and thank god she is recovering from her illness and doing quite well as long as there is love.. support and positive advise for her..
Here are ways to help someone with Depression (info from google) :
Educate yourself - better understand their condition and give more patience to tolerate the symptoms
Put yourself in their shoes - learn what depression feels like
Take care of yourself - feelings of depression is contagious
Be there for them - give them a shoulder to cry on or just listen while they spill out their hearts to you
Medications & therapy - crucial to their recovery. Help keep them on track with treatment
Love them unconditionally - let them know its their illness you are frustrated with, not them

A very common situation observed in current generation. Depression due to some incidence is still understandable, but we see people suffering from depression just because they chose to be introvert or cell phone addicts.

Thank you for sharing.. Depression can really hit anyone.. Some people I know look very happy and confident on the surface.. But when you spend time to talk one on one with them you get to know something is not right.
Hi @darrenting yes dey seem normal from the outside but when u really dig in dey actually suffer from depression. Ppl like dis needs our attn and help.
Thanks for sharing this info @gnaa80780912 I hope it can be usefull for my mum also. Her depression seems like getting worst. She ever on medication but she said it's useless and she stop without letting us know. I really hope that my dad and siblings can be more patience to her coz her situations seems not so stable. I do buy essential oils for her to use also. It seems like can help her abit but not sure it can cure her or not. And i do hope that i can spend more time with her and don't need to go do part-time anymore after i join steemit coz i want to have extra income to support my families & my parents. It's really make you worried all the time when someone close to you have depression.
hi @veenalo thks for dropping ur comment here and i do hope my experience helps. Don't worry ur mum will be alright as long as she has her family to support and take care of her. For depression, you just need to be patience and i know it can be tiring but it is more tiring for ur mum. Take care ya :)
