[Productivity] Napping, Close your eyes once in a while!
Hey friends. @gktown here.
This is going to get a little nerdy, but I hope it helps.
Did you know that your brain eats up to 1/3 of your calories and your ocular nerve, and optic brain matter make up a huge amount of that power draw.
Closing your eyes quiets your external signals, and lets you recover much needed energy for consolidating and restructuring the information your brain recieves.
That said, napping has a negative connotation that I am actively combating. If you are a tech worker, you may want to consider exercising a mid-day nap to boost productivity.
Planned napping involves taking a nap before you get sleepy. You may use this technique in business when you know that you will be up later than your normal bed time for an event, work session, or meeting, or as a mechanism to ward off getting tired earlier.
Emergency napping occurs when you are suddenly very tired and cannot continue with the activity you were originally engaged in. This type of fatigue shouldn't be ignored and can be used to combat drowsy driving or mid-day mental fatigue.
Habitual napping is practiced when a person takes a nap at the same time each day. Young children may fall asleep at about the same time each afternoon or an adult might take a short nap after lunch each day. 1
Depending to your rhythm you may find that you get tired between 2 and 4pm. This is not a short coming. You can gain some insight into common human tiredness patterns by analyzing car accident data.

Next time you're sleepy, take some time to rest your eyes. 30 minutes is lots, and can lead to long term memory consolidation.
