Roses - The Last Hurrah

Nyman's Fading Rose Garden

As I mentioned in my previous post about my trip to Nymans House and Gardens this weekend, I was surprised to discover how many flowers were still blooming.

This was not the case in the rose garden however, and this bush was the only one that still had a number of flowers on it.

Even so, you can see that the leaves are looking the worst for wear and the roses themselves are most definitely on their way out.

I thought this flower was interesting as it was blooming on a bush, all alone and surrounded by rose hips.

What a stalwart! 😍

This is a sort of throw back post in memory of @adrianobalan's and @sardrt @petals contests which may no longer be running but none the less inspired me to use the Roses Open Weekend tag before the summer is out.

I have some wild roses near me, and pick the Rose Hips to make Rose Hip marmalade.
Well done, Gillian. Nice images.

Thank you @bluefinstudios.

I have never tried Rose Hip marmalade but I've seen a few people mention it on Steemit. I can't imagine it. Does it taste of roses? 😁

A tiny bit.
However, since I sometimes add some lemon zest, and orange zest, in my recipe some of the citrus flavor comes from that.

Interesting @bluefinstudios. Do you eat it on toast that you would regular marmalade? 😊

My morning breakfast is sometimes Bolos Levedos – Portuguese Sweet Muffins! so bit of butter and Rose Hip Marmalade, or Jelly. Or, I also make Beach Plum Jelly, and this past week: Crab Apple Jelly!

Yum. Yum. @bluefinstudios. They all sound delicious. And do you make the muffins yourself too? 😊

No.... the Bolos are from a local bakery. It's a Portuguese fishing community!
they're sweet muffins

Mmmm roses - it’s been so long since I breathed deep into their petals and drank their rich perfume!

Roses are a great positive of living in a temperate climate @sallybeth23. 😁

Their scent is heavenly and I would miss them I think if I lived in the jungle.

Those are lovely roses :)

My friend has cut all of his roses back already, but there are several still going strong in the garden here - I've been looking to buy some Rose Rhapsody In Blue but I don't know if I've left it too late in the season for planting them.

Its getting colder in the evenings but there are a lot of plants still blooming.

i would have thought it was too late to plant roses now @viruk. You need to plant at the beginning of the growing season I think.

We are getting ready to prune ours hard back. It finished flowering a while ago. 😁

There are a lot of offers on roses at the minute but I don't want to buy some for them not to make it through the winter :(

Maybe best to ask the people selling them @viruk. I just saw someone say, on a different post, that now is the best time to plant roses! 😊

that doesn't seem right to me but then I'm not really that knowledgeable! 😁

Oh great! Thanks for the update - I'll see what I can find out from the supplier. They have some beautiful looking roses and some really good offers right now

Probably worth asking the people selling them @viruk? They should know if they will make it through the winter. Personally I would wait for Spring. 😁

They may be "past prime," but they still look quite beautiful! The only roses still blooming here are the wild beach roses...

=^..^=

Yes. I'm surprised they are still blooming @curatorcat. Ours finished a few weeks ago. Time to prune them back now I think. 😊

Petals are so soft and it has been reflected in the images! Lovely!

Thank you @rimicane. I don't think they will last much longer now. 😢

Lovely I love roses my favorite is the maroon

It is the most resistant and remained to bloom until the autumn. It is very nice to still meet some of them in our parks too. Thanks @gillianpearce

I noticed a really pretty rose bush in the garden next door today @madlenfox.

The bush itself is looking the worst for wear but the flowers are still really beautiful and there are many of them.

It is interesting how different they are from each other. I think the position they are planted has an effect too. 😊

Did you get around to booking anything for Steemfest in the end?

I hope of course you took pictures of them?
I really liked the shade in the second photo. He looks so gentle on the background of his dark green leaves.
No,@gillianpearce, I refuse this trip. There are many factors that prompted me to make this decision.

I hope of course you took pictures of them?

I didn't @madlenfox. As soon as I took my phone out the wind started blowing them around. They are quite big roses on thin stalks so they were moving about too much. I'll see tomorrow if the wind has dropped a bit.

I refuse this trip

Oh. That is a shame. I still haven't decided and your being there would have been one of the things on the positive side. 😁

@gillianpearce, Did you find out what the cost of participation is? (in discord)

Yes. I did @madlenfox. But I can't remember what they are off hand. There are 3 or 4 different levels I think. They are on the site. Going over to discord now. 😊
