Prehistoric Landscape
Stonehenge
For today's landscape photography we are revisiting Stonehenge, a prehistoric site in Wiltshire, England. The structure is thought to be more than 5000 years old and there is still some debate as to how the stones got there.
This photograph was taken from a moving car on our way home from out Easter break in Devon.

When I was growing up I walked among the stones on a number of occasions. We used to picnic there. Nowadays it is heavily managed and I don't think you're even allowed to touch the stones let alone sit amongst them.
The more people visit, the more it needs protecting. You can see from the photograph the hoards of people that were there on a Thursday, which wasn't actually a holiday and in the rain. It gives you an idea of just how busy it gets.

Hard to believe years ago you were able to get so close to the stones.
I can only imagine having a picnic among them! How cool!
Little did we know it wouldn't always be that way @goldendawne. I wonder if I've got any photographs from those picnics. Probably not. I doubt I had a camera then and if I did, I'm not sure I would have bothered to take it with me. That was the sort of thing parents did! 😊
I remember those days! One has to become a pagan now to get near them at all (annual dispensation - if even that is still granted). Glum face. Unfair.
I think the annual dispensation is still granted @sukhasanasister. But that, and TV, is about it.
