COMMITMENT TO QUALITY DIET AND NUTRITION

God made adequate provision for how we should live on earth. He also made provision for our health. He was concerned with every detail of our lives and gave us the blueprint on how to live well, including what food we should eat, the right quantity and how often we should eat it. Where the Bible did not go into details, we can infer from the saints who lived before us what our attitude should be. Many of us treat food, our body and our health poorly because we do not follow God’s guidelines.

“Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body…which is God’s.” - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.




What food should we eat? What are the consequences of eating right and not eating right?
When God created Adam and Eve, He told them their food.

"And the Lord God commanded the man, You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;" - Genesis 2:16.


Modern science supports the reasons why certain animals are regarded as unclean: pigs harbor various diseases; we now know of monkey pox. Ebola was contracted from a monkey; certain sea food like crabs and lobsters are sources of salmonella food-poisoning. Eating red meat in moderation is good as it gives us proteins and iron but too much of it has been associated with cancer. Some people abstain from meats and are called vegetarians. Eating the fat of animals contribute to excessive weight gain.



The type of food we are expected to eat is also dictated by Scripture: God was taking His children to a land full of “Milk and Honey.” John the Baptist ate “Honey and locusts.”

"Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper." - (clean insects) Leviticus 11:22.

give a lot of protein and some fat. Milk gives protein and fat and honey provides carbohydrates and essential anti-allergy substances. Nutritionists tell us to have a diet that have the following protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins, trace elements, vegetables and water.



Cereals (grains) and pulses (like beans and nuts) have a lot of proteins, trace elements and vegetable oils. Vegetables contain a lot of vitamin C and Folic Acid which are essential to repairing internal body injuries. Red and coloured leaves and fruits have Vitamin A that helps our eyesight; while milk, bones and exposure to sunshine give us vitamin D which helps our bones and teeth. Vitamin B is essential for our brains and nervous tissue the pulses, grains and meats give us vitamin B.



TODAY’S WISDOM.

From the examples of the diets of men and women in the Bible we can see that God is the Greatest Scientist! So who says Christianity and science can't get along? I will like to hear your own view on the comment below. If we live by the Bible, we will have fewer health problems. If the Bible is so accurate about little things like food, we can trust it to be accurate in other matters like money, health, marriage, administration, management, politics, etc.

I love how you treating the topic nutrition using biblical views. Nice one but do not forget people ate a lot of grains in the bible. It was theur major food and also manna is like bread. Dont these contain cholesterol that may be harmful to the body?
