The little man that never went anywhere in his life- fiction

Once upon a time not too long ago, there lived a little man in a little house in a small town. This little man had a normal nine to five job. He had quite a routine in the mornings. Every morning at 5 o' clock he would wake up to go and take a shower, and then he shaved and brushed his teeth.  After he finished in the bathroom, he dressed up in his little suit and tie and went to the kitchen to have his breakfast. He had the same breakfast every morning as this was part of his ritual. After breakfast he had one large cup of coffee before he then walked to the garage, where he got into his little car and drove straight to work.  Traffic was not so bad this early in the morning.

At work he would hang up his jacket in the corner of his office before he sat down behind his desk to start work. He would sit and work for hours, and at exactly 1 o clock in the afternoon, he would stop to go out for lunch. He went to the cafe on the corner of the block, where he then ordered his food and ate his lunch.

After lunch he would go back to his office where he regained his position behind his desk to finish his work.  The little man worked until 5 o clock and then packed up his laptop, took his jacket and got into his little car to drive home.

The little man worked hard during the day so during the evenings he would be a little more relaxed and set himself in front of the television where he ate his precooked microwave meal. At exactly 10 o' clock the little man would switch off his television and go to bed.

This was the life of this little man. Day in and day out the exact same thing happened. One day during his working hours, the big boss walked into the little man's office. The big boss knew that the little man was a hard worker and he told the little man that he has a new job for him. He wanted to send the little man to the big city to go and run a new office.  The little man told the big boss that he would think about it.

That evening the little man did not watch television, instead, he just sat there thinking about what the big boss said.  He thought about all the changes that he had to make to his life. He did not know if he was prepared to change his whole life...

The next morning the little man did exactly what he did the day before and when he arrived at work the big boss was already there waiting for him. The little man then told the big boss that he could not take him up on his offer.  The little man was totally stuck in a rut and even after the big boss begged him to reconsider, he was adamant and told the big boss that he was not taking the job.

That evening the little man started to wonder if he did the right thing. He had quite a lot of questions dancing around in his head.

Would it really be such a bad thing to go work in the city?

What if this big change would give him more opportunities?

By the end of the night the little man was rather excited. He now changed his mind and really wanted to go and work in the big city. The next morning the little man changed his ritual a bit and even skipped breakfast, because he was in a hurry to get to work. He wanted to go and tell the big boss that he wanted to take the job.

When the little man arrived at the office he went straight to the big boss. He immediately told the big boss that he changed his mind and that he really wanted to go to the big city. Unfortunately the big boss told him that he missed the boat, and that he already appointed someone else in the position.

The little man was shocked and sad, and realized that he made a mistake.  All of a sudden his life seemed so boring and he now realized that he actually wanted to change his life.

The little man always regretted this one mistake and his work started to deteriorate. His whole life was now upside down. He started to arrive at work late and he often did not even show up to work, because he was so depressed about not taking that job. When the next opportunity came to go to the big city, the big boss did not even ask him.

Moral of the story:

  • Don't be like little man. Take chances in life. Life is too short to live with regrets.
  • Don't become stuck in a rut.
  • Never doubt yourself

Wow! Nice done @giantbear

lol This sounds like me :)

I start work today and I honestly feel like this little man today....lol

Wonderful story @giantbear It was a story that was very easy to relate to. I think at different points in our lives we are exactly like the little man. We often get stuck in ruts and doubt ourselves. People are afraid to take chances since we're afraid of failure or loss.

Hi @rockjon that is very true. I feel as if I am stuck in a rut and I was off last week so today I feel like little man...lol

I like your inclusion of the morals of the story. It was nice to contrast my own ideas while reading the story to your intentions at the end.

Are you on Steemit chat or discord?

Yes I am on steemit chat. I don't like or understand discord...lol

Understandably so haha, but I'll message you now! : )

This sounds so familiar - once again well done

Yes, stuck in a rut that is what we are...lol at least we have steemit.

@giantbear nice story. This is the problem the man kind is facing. If once we take the decision we have to stand by it whatever it is since that is what our heart says . Everyone should be grateful for what we have. If the little man is grateful for his job he even may have become the head at that particlar office. moral should be Always follow ur heart

Awesome post @giantbear ! Read it twice and had to resteem.

I just recently wrote about escaping the rat race and another one on saying YES to possible opportunities. Even though this story is a fiction, I know many people stuck in the same circle as the little man and it is really sad. i was trying to help some of them because they are my friends or even family, but none of them was willing to make a change, so after a while I gave up on them and started filing up my own glass instead of helping fill up glass of others.

Followed you as well, because I like your writing and want to read more about the little man..;)

Very good point made by this short story
i love it.gif
