Hey guys, your friendly neighborhood ggteixeira here and today I'd thought I would switch up the regular League post with something a bit more different, my absolute favorite multiplayer survival games. Now for those of you that don't know what a multiplayer survival game is, well, the name pretty much says it all but I'll give a quick description none the less:

  • A multiplayer game based around surviving in some sort of world or environment while either working with and against other players.

Which each of the two games listed, I shall be giving a quick description of the game and both pros as well cons that come with the game (Personal opinion).

Rust

Everyone who knows about multiplayer survival games knew this was going to be on the list. This game is arguably the uncontested king of multiplayer survival games and one of the first few of them to do it right. When you join a server in Rust, you're tossed head first into a dangerous world with nothing but your trusty rock and lack of pants. From there, you can work your way up by harvesting resources, hunting the local wildlife and establishing yourself through building, though all made ten times more difficult not by the harsh environments but more harsh community, the players. Out of every ten times you die, it'll most likely be at another player's hands. If you ask me, trust no one, shoot first, ask questions later. Rust is very much PvP oriented and is full of great gameplay, satisfying combat and very intense raiding. If you love yourself some good player-verse-player action, Rust is definitely the game for you.

Pros:

  • Great gameplay, especially player-verse-player
  • Actively developed
  • Fun gunplay
  • Good to play with others

Cons:

  • Mostly toxic community
  • Like most survival games it has an expected learning curve

Reign of Kings

You wake up on the shores on an adequately sized island, nothing on you but some bandages and a club as you venture forth into the world to try and make your mark. Reign of Kings is a multiplayer survival game set in a strange fantasy medieval world where the map's local inhabitants (You and players) fight over control of resources, land, but most important of all the throne which comes with some nice benefits. The crafting in this game is simple yet in my opinion great as you collect resources, build different stations (Smithy, crafting bench, fletcher, windmill and so on) and work your way up unlocking higher tier gear, building materials, siege equipment and so on. The combat in this game is clunky at times but fun, inspired by Mount and Blade in a sense of swinging, blocking and the ranged archery in-between. Keep in mind there are no firearms in this game and all the weapons are mostly medieval-based (Swords, hammers, shields, bows and tons more). Just like Rust this game is more PvP-oriented, so keep that in mind if you don't like that kind of stuff but the community is a lot more 'calm' and staying out of trouble is easy if you know what you're doing.

Pros:

  • Great medieval survival game
  • Gives players a goal to work towards, the throne
  • Fun medieval combat
  • Soothing soundtrack

Cons:

  • Isn't updated since it's complete
  • Learning curve
  • Can feel clunky at times

Now I've played so many multiplayer survival games and there are so many missing from this list, but these two are the two in which I had most fun playing. Feel free to reply with opinion on the games mentioned, stories you had with the games mentioned or just any multiplayer survival game that you really enjoyed playing. Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a great day.
