Summertime is festivaltime, especially in Germany. Currently we have more than 500 festivals here and new ones are added every year. You can visit festivals from January to December but I see summer as the main festival season. I have personally been to a few famous rock and metal festivals over the last 6 years and I will tell a few tales from my prospective. As I will only cover very popular festivals I recommend visiting @rootingrobert. He and his crew make art out of trash at festivals. Very cool stuff. I already wrote about him here.

Rock, tents and fame

Every year more and more people see being part of a festival as their main summer vacation. Some festivals, like the legendary fusion festival, grew from very small alternative festival to a pop cultural phenomenon. Fusion is so big now that the organizers decided to have the festival only every two years. So there will be no fusion in 2017. But I will write more on that later this week.

In the last 20 years, some German festivals have become world-famous. The Wacken Open Air. It is the world's largest heavy metal festival for example and attracts around 85,000 metal fans from around the world. When it started in 1990 you could listen to six bands. In 2017 there will be over 150 and I will be there. I will obviously write about it on steemit too.

Then there is Rock am Ring, the fifth-largest music festival of the world. In the last few years the festival had to change the location and 2016 it needed to be ended in advance and 2017 the festival was interrupted because the police had to investigate a potential terrorist theat. Luckily all went well but the fans were very disappointed because there was no way to bring Rammstein to the stage after the incident.

As I said there are many many more festivals in Germany. I just named the very big and famous ones and I will write more about them in the next days.
