Librarians On Parade
A 4th Of July Bookmobile Promenade!
In what is becoming a yearly tradition for members of my family, yesterday morning my son, daughter, and I found ourselves lining up with many members of our local community for a good, old-fashioned Fourth of July parade. This year is our library district's second year of having the Bookmobile roll through our small town's parade, and as one of our local librarians, I got to strut my stuff alongside the big mobile library. By strut my stuff I mean that I got to wear a snazzy summer reading t-shirt, some red, white, and blue bling, fling candy, and try to keep people, mainly children, out from underneath the Bookmobile's tires. It's a working bit of fun and play, but I wouldn't miss it for all the fireworks in a cargo container!
A really nice bonus is that my kids get to participate too! My daughter, whom I affectionately refer to as Intern I carried our library district's banner in front of the Bookmobile last year with my boss' daughter, and this year the two interns made a repeat performance. A new thing for this year's trip was that my son, Intern I Squared got to ride on bus with some other employees kids. The excitement was real:)
Me, I am always excited, but the level of chihuahua-esque internal quivering escalates when I get to dress up and throw things at, er, to people! Somehow, aside from my bag of candy to toss to the local children, I also was given the library's camera and told to take pictures. Somehow along my occupation-way I have become the official archival creature of our local library. Hmm...
Aside from my most excellent Library's Rock summer reading shirt, I was also wearing a red, white, and blue lei and necklace, but in all reality I was pretty stoked about what my parents picked me up on their latest road trip. You see, I tend to not wear anything over the top, so when Dad and Mom presented me a hat that was emblazoned with a rhinestone flag I was a bit mystified. I mean, the entire brim of this denim hat was covered in rhinestones. It looked liked something someone's aunt had bedazzled. However, inspiration hit me and I realized that Mom and Dad had gotten me the hat of supreme not Katness to wear in the 4th parade, and wear it I did. I know the sun hit those rhinestones and shone like an eagle's tear of justice....
And it was donning that fine hat, with ribbons in my hair streaming in my wake, that I sauntered next to the Bookmobile tossing candy yesterday morning to a couple thousand people. I love giving candy to children and waving and calling out to all the people in my community that I know (and those I don't). Regardless about how one feels about politics, nations, and ingesting candy, it's sometimes just nice to slap on some finery and strut your way though town with your friends and neighbors on a mission of show-offery and goodwill.
And on that most affable note, I bid you all a very good evening!:)

And no picture of the bedazzled hat and you in it ... come on girl; that is hardly fair. I have to ask. Did you also go to the fiddle concert. It sounds like you and the interns had a great 4th:):):)
There might be photographic evidence, and I might be persuaded to share it, LOL!
Alas, I didn't go to the fiddle concert, I did make a turn through the park and talked to some of my favorite fiddlers, but I had many hours of oven baked pizza making ahead of me that afternoon, it was glorious!!
We did have a fabulous fourth, today I am dehydrating onions my friend gave me and we are going to wash Moo Bear, well, my daughter is going to bathe him, I am gonna film it, LOL! Hope you are having a fantastic Friday!
Can't wait to see the vid:)
It's great to live these moments the independence of other countries celebrates it very nice I like to see these photos or on TV
You carry many sweets there that's good hahaha
Today in my country the independence is celebrated I am from Venezuela but everything is so apathetic in my country nothing is celebrated
Have a good night
I agree that Independence Day remembrances and celebrations are great things, I love seeing other country's parades and traditions too:)
I threw over five pounds of candy out to the crowds in that parade, it was wild! LOL!
Ah yes, things are a bit rough in your country right now, I sure hope that the future holds better times for you and your beautiful part of the world:)
How nice that this becomes something habitual for you I hope that more and more it is and that it remains for generations
Happy 4th of July for you and your children that I see that they did very well
Awe, thank you for the well wishes, and yes, the kids did great. It was so much fun and we all look forward to the parade every year.
Hope you have a lovely weekend:)
You are welcome to swipe that photo I sent you of yourself and put it here!
Ahh, thank you kindly for that:) I knew I had saw you, lol!
Great idea to put the bookmobile in the parade. I will have to suggest that next year. Of course not everyone can wear such a beautifully bedazzled hat, but I bet you wore it with great pride for the proud the free and the brave! 🐓🐓
People love hearing that big ol bus honk its horn in the parade! I hope yours gets to roll on through:)
That hat is something, at the very least I got a good head and neck work out, for it weighs a ton, LOL! I sure hope that you had a marvelous 4th my friend!
The developments are really wonderful
Well done publishing
Very good information, my friend
This hat sounds like the true Kat's Meow. I can just see you tossing bucketfull's of candy to the tots and big, older tots. Sounds like great fun. Speaking of hats, that one on the head on the bike for fiddling is another classic. Never seen one of those. Never did go to the fiddle contest in Weiser (sp?). You ever been? A guy I worked with was big there. And he loved baloney sandwiches for lunch too. Well, talk atcha lateron. T.H.S.
