A Blizzard Of A Ramblewrite

There's Snow Place Like Home...

Now that I am back in the land of the intestinally sound living, I thought it might be a good time to revisit the new tag that sprouted from my grey matter land, the ever-humble, and most probably going to be rarely used #ramblewrite. So much has happened in my world during the last five days that my eyes just crossed slightly as I pondered where to begin this tale.

Last Friday my son and I attended a 4-H fundraiser of excellence, I wrote about it in my last post. In the wee hours of the morning during that night I found myself fretting over my very ill son. A more fantastical digestive pyrotechnical display I have yet to see. For six hours my boy was a puke show, among other things, and I felt so bad that he was suffering. Once his stomach flu show abated I spent the following day doing all the things that must be done post illness like laundry, disinfecting, etc. After not sleeping the night before I was a little wiped out, but kept on trucking as parents tend to do.

At least our pets were comfortable and cozy...

Then, the next day the plague struck me. I will not go into the gory details of what I endured, suffice to say that I am a believer that you can always learn something in any experience. Well, I learned that I can fall asleep in a sitting position from exhaustion while throwing up. I feel like that knowledge could maybe come in handy someday. I just don't know exactly why or how, but you never know.

Anyway, after two nights without sleep and one of those nights being full of virus caused intestinal glory, I was a real mess by the time Monday rolled around. I wish I would have been a little sentient during that time, for it was the first day in years that I didn't move from my bed. Wish I could have been there....

Tuesday we got blessed with three feet of snow in one day. Oh yes, and my husband, who has only been sick three times in the last two decades, came down with the flu. He was er, blessed, to have the fever ache manifestation rather than the intestinal death kind, so we both got to spend some quality time together. It was almost romantic that one time we lay in our bed and enjoyed our juice bars for dinner.

The following day we had to deal with our mountain of new snow. The children and I shoveled for hours while my husband plowed everything out with our tractor. Our new neighbor, a delightful woman from the southlands was reduced to almost tears when I sent the kids over to shovel her out. Apparently where she hails from people don't do things like that. That admission made me a bit sad, for here in our neck of the North Idaho woods we take care of our neighbors and vice versa. Our poor neighbor, her crippled elderly mother, and her son moved into a bit of a nightmare next door, as the man who had been working on their house for the last six months didn't get the job done the way he was supposed to. They have no floor, no roof insulation, etc. I sent over every spare heater I had, plus our military sleeping systems. I also might have sent over some triple chocolate, chocolate ganache filled, milk chocolate buttercream frosted, chocolate shaving dipped cupcakes too. You know, cause it was Valentine's Day and stuff.

Speaking of the loved and hated holiday. V-day equals baking day for this Kat. After the children went to bed the previous night I taped little valentines to their doors for them to find when they woke up. I then made those chocolate cupcakes with my son and baked a triple berry pie for my husband, complete with pie crust hearts on the top. Touchy feely things makes my group all sorts of squirmy, so once in a while I take joy at watching them emotion flounder a bit. Just for fun.

And that brings us to today, This morning I spent time in Department of Defense land procuring a specific piece of paperwork that I needed from the VA, taught school, installed antivirus software on my husband's computer, baked yet another cake (I've done 4 this week!) for my nephew's birthday, cleaned the whole house with the children, proudly watched my thirteen year old daughter learn to plow the snow with the tractor, and am now going to go make our traditional Friday night pizza for the family to nosh on before they head off to the shooting range for Friday Night Shoot. The cool thing is that I am finally starting to feel a bit more like myself! Yay! Hope you all have had a rambliscious week and a rambletastic weekend!!

And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's Lysol wiped and heavily swiped iPhone.

It seems like the flu time of year. You know as much as I complain about the weather here, I have to admit we never get 3 feet, so you ofically win.

I will say those cupcakes tho! Yes, please! I am pretty sure they are low sugar and healthy too!

What! You don't get buried alive? LOL! I just spent a couple hours shoveling out my travel trailer, and I am not complaining because next Monday we are ditching this snow covered joint for the warm lands of the South. SO EXCITED!

And of course those cupcakes are low in sugar and healthy. You know, like doughnuts and Mt. Dew. 😉

Holly balls! You have a FAR more involved life mid winter than I do! I guess I can thank my young kids for the limited melee I've had to endure so far... I highly expect that to change soon but we will take it as it comes.

I honestly feel for you, the ick is a pain in the ass amongst other areas of the body and at all the times to have it is the "best" snow we have had in years. I truly dread the eventuality of my kids bringing home the ick from elsewhere.

Ah yes, the young ones, while involved, tend to need far less chauffeuring than they do when they are older. I sometimes miss the days when it was playdough and math manipulatives rather than 1500 pound steers and multiple firearms for shooting competitions, ha ha! However, I have to say my kids are super useful and get more so as they age. The other day my daughter plowed the barn road with the tractor and my son climbed up on the roof to clean out the chimney, so there are some bonuses:)

Thank you kindly for the "ick" sympathy. We always joke that we can never do just one thing at a time, and I'm hoping that we just got life slapped a bit before we go on our road trip next week. I would much rather deal with extra chaos from home base!

my dear friend as always is a pleasure to say hello and read your stories, you've really had a few days of Super Mama, with sick children, two nights without sleep, snow, baked pies, you cleaned the house uuffff I got tired and still missing things you did .

Your pets are adorable, it seems that they are always willing to pose for a photo, I admire you very much you could carry everything and even with sleepless nights.

Always grateful for your support!

Awe, my dear friend, your words are a balm for my exhausted soul!

Our pets are constantly up to something. The other day I walked out into my living room to the scene of my son vacuuming our cat, lol! The cat loved it, in fact, I filmed it and will post it later for all to giggle at:)

Hope you are having a most lovely day!!!

your pets make your life happy, I hope to see that video soon

In Minnesota, we have a phrase for this: uffda!

Ha! I am pretty sure that Bobo uttered that same phrase when he landed after jumping off the roof the other day...

The flu and snow removal parts of the story are lamentable, but I do applaud the cupcakes! Glad you had all recovered sufficiently to enjoy them!

Would you believe that I didn't eat a single cupcake? I didn't partake because I am trying to stay healthy. Road trip 2019 commences next week and as I have 6 hundred thousand things to get done before I go, I have been abstaining from anything that might knock me down. You know, cause I need to shovel out the travel trailer and stack animal food and so on, lol!

Hope you are staying toasty, it has been too cold the last couple of days.
