3 Most Important Steemit Passwords

in #teammalaysia8 years ago (edited)

We had just completed our first Steemit Masterclass held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on 10-11 February 2018. The workshop was organised with the collaboration of great pioneers of #teammalaysia, @danieldoughty @maverickfoo @bitrocker2020 @deborism @myach who humbly came to guide and share their knowledge with the growing community of Steemians in Sabah.

On the first day of the workshop, we learnt quite a number of things but I would like to first and foremost highlight a very important lesson, i.e. What you should know about your Steemit account password.

Apparently, the are 4 passwords or keys 🔑 that we must be familiar with. As a newbie to Steemit, I was not aware that there were more than one password. All the while, I assumed it was just like any other accounts... like Facebook, emails or bank accounts, mostly have only one password. So, for newly registered Steemians, you should take note of this.

Firstly, go to your wallet, you will automatically see your account BALANCES, instead, click on PERMISSIONS. On this page, you should see “POSTING”, “ACTIVE” and “OWNER” keys (as per photo above).

I will guide you step by step and briefly discuss the importance of these 3 main passwords or keys.

1. POSTING KEY

This key allows you to post, edit, comment, upvote, resteem or mute other accounts.
However, this key can also be used to login to your Steemit account. For security purposes and the safe keep of your “OWNER KEY” or master key, it is highly recommended that you use your “POSTING KEY” instead. To view your “POSTING KEY”, click on “Show Private Key”. Please note that only YOU can view this password.

2. ACTIVE KEY

This is specifically used for making transfers and placing orders in the internal market (within the Steemit platform). Please note that this key CANNOT be used as a login password to your account. To view this key, click on “Login To Show”. Then login using your “OWNER KEY”. Please also note that only YOU can view this password.

3. OWNER KEY

When you first register with Steemit, each of us are given a password. This password is called “OWNER KEY”, a.k.a. master key or “the mother of ALL passwords". This key should be well kept, i.e. kept in apps like “LastPass” or best hidden somewhere not within your handphone or laptop/computer. Thou shall not lose this key. Losing this key is as good as losing your whole Steemit account - All will be lost.

There is a 4th key called “MEMO”, but there is currently no use for this key.
