Why So Serious?

Give cookies to a child and he becomes your friend -Geezee

I noticed while growing up that i never met a cookie i hated, which gave birth to the above quote, sometimes i wonder what brings people to be serial killers, suicidal, emotionally unstable etc etc.

I thought of it over and over and traced my lifestyle back to my childhood days, maybe if had been treated a little differently while growing up i wouldn't have been this way i am, for example if i had been kept indoors not allowed to make friends and socialise i would have gotten a low self esteem, or maybe i could lack courage and not be able to express myself or face a crowd.

I figured out that the way you treat a child influences his behaviour and lifestyle when grown, for instance, a child that's being nagged at consistently or being scolded frequently (don't get me wrong, I'm not saying its wrong to scold a child) for little mistakes may grow up to be a loner thinking he might not get things right if he tries.

Another thing i figured was that isolating a child and not allowing them explore their surroundings/environment trims their chances of having friends and being happy, most children in this category do not do well in a social gathering, they talk of tennis when other children are talking about music maybe because they don't know what to say as they were not exposed to it.

Children learn better in the midst of other children and also when a caring father or mother takes time to make learning fun for the child, he will definitely want to study and learn more if he enjoys the company of whoever is helping at the point in time, you will agree with me when i say learning is not limited to the classroom walls, children are wonderful learners once they are in the right hands.

Children like to play a lot, let them have their play time, it makes them feel like they can overcome a particular challenge since most games and toys seems challenging to them, they want to fix or dismantle everything they lay their hands on, its a way for them to build their self confidence, once they achieve what they want with an object they feel like they have won and would like a tougher challenge, it builds their zeal and ability to want to succeed at everything, but once a parent stops a child from doing things often the child gets a message that means it's either not good to try or not good to keep pushing, that results in some grownups giving up on their goals and see no need to try again when the fail on the first attempt.

Some children are inquisitive just like i was while growing up (i still am), they ask series of questions because they want to know more and broaden their knowledge, imagine not responding or snubbing such a child, he will either stop asking you and start asking strangers who can influence him badly with corrupt and inappropriate answers or stop asking questions totally such that it might affect him at school because he doesn't ask the teacher a question on what he doesn't understand, he starts failing academically.

Why so serious when you can have fun and attain greatness with your child? Think about it...

I'm not perfect with children neither am i a parent, but the above is what i feel about them, i hope prospective parents learnt one or two things from it. feel free to drop hints on how to go about achieving greatness without being so serious with children down there in the comments, let steemians learn one or two things from you too...

African parents need to see this in order to change the way they train their children, charity begins from home. Nice writeup dude.

Thank you bro

Muchas gracias.

Always try to understand children's phycology. Don't force them. Give them the freedom to think. Always listen to them. They are a good thinker, they are an innovator.
Nice post, I like it. Thanks, for sharing.

You made excellent points here, childhood are the best formative years of any individuals. Though some serial killers have been known to have a wonderful childhood. Children learn so quick while young. So, it is always ok to expose them to things that are not harmful.

It's a good post. I hope all parents will be able to learn from this

thanks for this

I was always kept indoors, and never allowed to go out. That explains the reason why i am not capable of speaking before a crowd and find it almost improbable to socialise with people. I love your post. I hope my children will be treated differently from the way i was treated. I'll give this post to my mum...L.O.L
