Hi Friends... Here I am with a very tasty dish, made using Colocasia Leaf's Stems!!.

I have already written in my earlier blogs about the goodness of these leaves. It's a rich source of calcium, magnesium, iron and other minerals.

Stems are also rich in Vitamins and it contains good quantity of fiber and is good for digestion.

The green Colocasia leaves have a tendency to cause itching or making slight irritation on the tongue and throat. (We have to use more tamarind while preparing dishes with this.). But this Red Colocasia leaves are of a better quality and these never cause any irritation on tongue or throat. We have this in our Garden.

Now let's see how to make this dish Menaskai...

Remove the leaves along with stem.

Separate the stems. (Am using the leaves for some other dish, tomorrow.)

Peel the outer layer of the stem and cut it into slices or cubes after washing.

Now take a heavy bottom vessel or a pan and pour 1cup water. Add tamarind, Jaggery and salt and the pre - cut pieces to this pan. Cook until the pieces are tender. (within 2 to 3 minutes it gets cooked if kept covered with a lid).

For Masala...
Grated Coconut - 1cup.
Fenugreek - 1teaspoon
Black gram Dal - 1teaspoon
Sesame seeds - 1teaspoon
Asafoetida - 1pinch
Turmeric - 1pinch
Curry leaves - 15 to 20.
Coconut oil - 2 table spoon.

Roast Fenugreek, Black gram Dal and Sesame (Til) seeds, all one tea spoon each, along with 2 red chillies in one spoon coconut oil.

Using a mixer, grind this along with grated Coconut, to a fine paste. While grinding, take and use the water from the pre boiled stem pieces.

Add this Masala to the pieces and cook for another 5 minutes, adding turmeric, and asafoetida powder and some more salt for taste.

Lastly give a good seasoning using coconut oil, mustard seeds and curry leaves.

Yummy Tasty 'Menaskai' is ready to serve either with Dosa or Chapathies or can be had even with Dal and Rice.!!....

Really enjoyed seeing the pictures ma'am, lovely dish!

Yes ,I'd like to try this dish. Is there anyone who is going to serve me? 😉

But somehow, I got more interested in "tomorrow's dish".

Future is always more tempting than the present, you know!

It's like very healthy and testy food. These vegetables grow more in the street or in the house courtyard.

An interesting recipe @geetharao and I am sure that it is very tasty!

Oh yes @geetharao, an amazing dish and it has an appetizing look!
