Don't Assume Everyone's An Idiot

You know, of all the people in the world, at least a bit less than half are probably idiots.

You probably don't even realize how dumb normal people are. I certainly haven't at times.

When you're talking in a bar to a random stranger about the universe and everything else, they don't seem like an idiot. You're having a good conversation. But you're ignoring...or at least forgetting, the guys slumped over their drinks at the bar. The girls trying to get with random Joes. Every idiot fluffing up his feathers hoping to get a mate. Even if I'm one of those idiots... I never quite seemed to notice how dumb average people were.

Sure, be offended. You're just some average Joe...but are you? You probably aren't. Even if you think you're average, you're probably smarter than normal. You're on the internet, reading a blockchain.

But still, even if you realize how dumb normal people are, that every smart person you've ever met is actually above average, you shouldn't just assume everyone's an idiot. Because you'll be wrong a hell of a lot of time.

Greater than 50 percent chance might be good for Vegas, but it's a fucking crap shoot. Technically it's actually a bit better than a crap shoot. It's a toss of a coin, because there's a small percentage chance that that could could land in a crack or in the grass and wind up on it's edge.

Oh, you have any clue what I'm talking about? Even though I'm just rambling? You're probably smarter than average. You see, average is a lot less like what you think average is, and a lot more like Bubba and his other brother Bubba.

But still, you shouldn't assume everyone's an idiot.

A lot of the time, people will understand you. A lot of the time, they will get what you are talking about. They might just need some clarification. And then, you're the one that's the idiot, not understanding them, and assuming that they're the one...well...yeah...

Modern life is complex. Have you ever thought about what we do on a daily basis? I am sitting in front of a computer, typing on a board made up of dozens of switches that modify a circuit made up of a chip that just might be more complex than the first computers, and that's just the keyboard that interfaces with my computer, which then reacts using thousands and hundreds of thousands of lines of code, sending out pulses to a monitor that modifies the opacity of a pixel on a light board so I can see what I am bullshitting to you. Yeah, that's fucking insane. And that's our every day.

But you know what? That doesn't matter. We didn't evolve to type on keyboards and look at monitors. That's the result of exponential growth of inventions due to communication. Not everyone has to be as smart as the guys that make the computers in front of us. They don't have to even be as smart as the guys cleaning the floors actually.

We might have created this vast machine known as capitalism to get shit done, but really, humans don't need to be that smart.

Joe Schmoe can farm his fields or fix pipes or cut the heads off chickens or sweep floors or catch dogs or whatever the hell he wants to do for work. And he can be however smart or dumb as he wants to be or was born to be. Technically all he has to do is survive long enough to breed, and then his kids do the same. Then maybe in a few years we'll all get universal basic income and it won't matter at all.

But, still, doesn't matter what he does, you can't assume that he's an idiot.

Right now there are tons of geniuses working normal jobs. Hell, there are millionaires working normal jobs. Lord knows there are tons of complete idiots making tons of money. I'm sure you've had quite a few as bosses.

You look at a man and you see a caveman because of his furrowed brow and unkempt hair...but you forget that it was cave man that built the tools and weapons from nothing and survived the winters in the wilderness, passing down knowledge of hunting, tool creation, sewing, leather working, etc. They didn't have books to read to teach them everything. They just figured it out if they didn't know. They figured it all out, so that they could survive, and one day birth your dumb ass.

So don't go assuming someone's an idiot, because even if they are, you probably are too, because lets face it, we kinda all are. We're all just monkeys on a rock circling a giant gas lantern in the night.
