Cheap? Vape? Why not recycle that shitty e-liquid!?

in #vaping8 years ago

When I switched to vaping, I was able to quit smoking quite easily. While to some, vaping isn't exactly quitting fully, it doesn't leave any real stink on you, and won't give you cancer. So no, vaping is not smoking. One reality you will learn though is that a lot of eliquid sucks. Not many as quite as gross as cigarettes, but there are a ton that are disgustingly strong, and just plain disgusting.

I would have no problem if these vape liquids were sold as concentrates. In fact, some of them might actually be vapeable then. But then you would have to buy vegetable glycerine and mix it in another container, and they'd have to tell you how much to dilute them.

Not all of them are simply too strong though. Some of them are just plain disgusting.

Occasionally you are lucky enough to have just the right eliquid to mix with them to make them actually taste good, but other times, you're not so lucky.

If you're cheap like me and you wasted money on a shitty vape liquid, you don't just wanna throw it away, unless it's really bad.

A really simple solution is to use the same things you use to make eliquid to save some from the trash. Of course, you might end up just making more trash, but why not at least try?

You can just make your own eliquid, but maybe you're crazy cheap, and you don't even like the idea of throwing shit away.

Get a few small bottles, put a bit in, maybe add some vegetable glycerine to dilute the original flavor, and try out a few carefully estimated drops of flavors you might think would go good with the original flavor. Can't be too much more disgusting than you started with, right? With a little luck, you might end up with something vapeable. With a lot of luck, you might end up with something actually good.

Now, I might be cheap, but the fact of the matter is that if you buy eliquid regularly, you're gonna end up with a lot of it that's gross. Considering that these assholes overcharge for these bottles at $15-30 a pop for something not too large, that shit adds up. You might as well try to save as much as you can.

If you want to save money, you should make your own to begin with, so you'll have what you need to try to recover mass marketed shit.

It's actually a lot easier to randomly mix shit that's vapeable than it is to make your own eliquid. Just look up what the number of drops is for your size of container for a certain percentage. Depending on how strong your flavor is, and how strong you want it, you might want to try 1-5%. For something like coffee, 1% might actually be too strong. For normal fruit flavors, a nice mellow accent might be 2 or 3%, while a stronger main flavor might be 5-7%, or even as high as 10% in some rare cases of a very weak flavor. Be very reluctant to ever go up to 10% or higher though. Few flavors need to be that high, and even then, not in all mixes.

You can also add a bit of nic to it...but unless you are good at math and understand you are working with a deadly chemical, I wouldn't suggest it.

Happy Vaping!

Never thought of making vape juice, that's a great idea. Vaping without nicotine is pointless, may as well blow bubbles and chew gum

You can get nicotine at different levels to mix with, depending on how paranoid you are. You can get 100mg, which I don't suggest spilling on your skin, or something like 36mg, which is higher than you would vape, but a lot safer to handle. Many suggest wearing gloves when mixing with 100mg, but you don't really have to, as long as you try not to get it on your skin, and wash your hands after.

If you use lower levels of nicotine to mix with, or are just careful, it's not a big deal.

Just don't spill it all over yourself, whatever strength you get, then sit with it on your skin. If you spill it, wash it off immediately, and keep it away from kids and pets.

I've spilled it on myself exactly once, after mixing my own eliquids for over a year. I got a little on my clothes, and the table. I immediately went over and splashed water where I spilled it, then changed my clothes and wiped off the area and washed up. I didn't feel any effects despite it being 100mg, which everyone tells you to wear gloves and be paranoid with. You probably should be paranoid with it, but if there is an accident, you should be able to just wash it off, and be fine.

If you mix a liquid with too high of nicotine, it should be pretty obvious. You can tell when a vape liquid has high nicotine even easier than a cigarette. It feels harsh and you feel the high a lot more.

Probably best buying 12mg nicotine of good flavour and cutting that with your method. Time to charge up the vape!

If you're on something like 3mg eliquid, 12mg is probably fine, but it might be a bit more expensive, especially if you're any higher. I would say about 24mg is a good compromise between safety and price. But if you don't care about price as much, you can even just get the level that you vape at, and just count the drops of flavorings directly into bottles with the nicotine.
