Hey people i bought some coins today and this morgan was with it but i sometimes wonder what goes through peoples minds when they own coins. This coin is in relative good condition but it has been scratched all over with what looks like a pen knife all over the left side of Libertys face. I am not sure there is anything that can be done but it is more silver in the stack.
What a way to ruin a coin with epic patina.... but it might have been some kid or someone with absolutely no knowledge of coins. Who knows, maybe I ruined a Wide AM cent as kid throwing them at friends in the parking lot....

I agree it is a shame that someone would do this, but it is still not a bad looking coin and a great addition to the stack.
hiya, i may be wrong but, i think this coin belonged to someone who tried their hand at engraving, i have recently begun to learn rngraving myself and the first thing we do is get an old coin and in my experience the same thing happens every time, and that is whatever tool youre using it is not good enough and just makes scratches exactly like this on the coin its a learning process we learn we need to buy the proper tools :) i think perhaps they either didnt care for the value of this coin before experimenting on it or they didnt know, i have a few ten and five pence pieces they look so similar :) like i said i could be wrong it just looked so smilar :) hope you have an excellent day much respect to you
