Ode to Mother

As new age travellers wend their way,
Midst miracles of modern day,
With eagle vision yet blinkered still,
They see only wood, for trees they kill,
Devouring forest and all that dwell,
Within that pure creation realm,

Death and plunder all the day,
To every species in their way,
Do they dispense to all that may,
Provide a future place to stay.

For man and beast and bird and tree,
And fish and all those in the sea,
For all a temperature too high,
No oxygen, no clear blue sky,

And after ripping out her heart and lungs,
And poisoning her waterways,
And pillaging her precious ground,
And murdering all whom life she gave,

They perish for want that they disdained,
And leave her wounded unto death,
Her grand achievement hath betrayed her,
She mourns the loss of all her spawn,

With no more atmosphere above,
And no one left for her to love,
She breathes her last pathetic breath,
And gives herself to awful death,

A limp and frigid lifeless waste,
Careening through galactic space,
Four billion years she lived and thrived,
Until the pride of man arrived,
And slew her, as it were, in the blink of an eye.
