This is a much smaller and fragile looking moth, but when zoomed in closer, its face has a creepiness about it with those folded back antennae.
This one has something on its eye and almost looks like it is wearing a fur shawl.
I love the tassels on the wing tips, likely for aerodynamic effects.
Here are those same tassels in a different species at an even higher resolution. Notice the appearance of flexibility and very fine spikes, on the points, for reducing drag, leading to more efficient flight.
Eye knew it! Markings on butterflies really DO mimic a predator's gaze
Biologists at Jyväskylä University in Finland studied how wild great tits reacted to images of the wings of butterflies and the faces of owls
The tits were startled and tried to flee at the sight of owl faces with open eyes, and butterflies that had eye spots on them that mimiced owl eyes
They say their study is evidence that butterfly eye spots mimic predators
Scientists have long debated whether butterfly eye spots were an example of Batesian mimicry or if the patterns simply served to confuse predators
Moth beautifully posed. The increase plunges us into an amazing world where everything changes its habitual appearance. Well done. You have many beautiful moths. Do not stop.
Wow! The scales and tassels are so perfect! Great shots! :)
Took a little playing with the light to get them there.
You sure got it right! It looks like a jewelled curtain or something... One of the best macros I've ever seen :)
