Hello Steemers!

Whilst I watered the garden this morning I was happy to discover my watermelon plant is progressing which spurred on a bit of a shoot. I was in good furry company: the plants in the garden are for the whole family to enjoy, our cat loves chewing on the lemongrass as you can see!

As I mentioned, here is the watermelon! It's the biggest surviving melon so far and I can only hope it continues to thrive and the two other plants follow suit. I have been babying these watermelon plants making sure they are not overproducing and failing to keep fruit alive. I must have done something right at this point!

The Twilight chilli bush is alive and bursting with delicious chillis again, I can't wait to incorporate them into my meals!

The Carosello cucumbers are finally growing and producing flowers, at this stage of the summer season I am wondering how well the cucumbers will fend. I shall see how things go.

Last but not least, my peppers! The plants have been growing in height and producing an impressive amount of peppers. However, they are all falling victim to a bug of some kind, as you can see in the last photo. I have lost so many peppers now and have been researching to fix the problem. I am thinking the soil is lacking in calcium so I am going to buy some calcium oxide to add to the soil, to hopefully better the plants' life and stop this from happening. I have also read that eggshells could help. If anyone has any tips on how I could fix this issue I would be really grateful.

That's all for now! I hope you liked this peek into my garden. Please link me to your latest garden posts so I can see how you are getting on in yours!!

That cat looks hilarious. I missed out on growing watermellons in my garden this year. All my starters died from something. :(

Haha he is a crazy cute cat! Sorry to hear yours didn't do well. My plants were really hard to care for too, I am lucky to have this watermelon!

Yay! I always love your garden updates!! The plants are looking great, those cucumbers look fabulous ypu are in for a bumper crop. They can keep producing well into the autumn in Spain and probably happier when the worst of the intense heat passes. They look really excellent at this point.
Your cat is soooooo gorgeous, what a beauty. So nice to see a fluffy getting in on the photos too 😍
Love those chili’s, what beautiful colours those are. Are they medium hot or super hot type?
Garden lime , bicarbonate of soda, egg shells all work well for lowering acid in soil and bicarbonate also works for aphid and spider mite control amongst other uses. I love the stuff.

Happy gardening 🌈💛🦋🌴❤️

Glad you like my garden updates @sallybeth23. The chillis are medium heat I'd say with a good flavour too. Thank you for recommending bicarb. I will try that and some egg shells first, maybe that will help and I won't have to buy this calcium oxide.

Hope the jungle is treating you well!

Save your eggshells over the winter as you use them. Dry them and when you have a lot, powder them in a good blender. I add eggshell powder into every hole I plant my peppers and tomatoes in. It does help to keep out that blossom end rot and spots from lacking calcium. During the growing season I use fish emulsion mixed with a scoop of epsom salts in a gallon of water to fertilize them. The plants love the epsom salt.

This is great advice @sunscape, thank you very much for taking the time to share your methods with me. I will follow your advice, fingers crossed my next season of peppers will be good! Must order some epsom salt online. I can't seem to find it in the shops here!

Walmart or your general pharmacy stores will carry it.

Gardening is a interesting work. I love it.

Thanks for your comment

Hi GC!
Great post - your garden (and cat) are looking superb!
Yes the black spot on your peppers may well be Calcium deficiency - Epson salts can be very good for this. Also Chelated Iron or Magnesium can be helpful. Ask at your garden centre for advice, they will be happy to advise you no doubt.

Haha thanks @icedrum! I am going to try using bicarbonate of soda and some egg shells first and then move on to other options. You are right I could speak with someone at my local garden centre about it, which I will do as well. Thank you for your advice and support!
