Beer on the Homestead, Not just for drinking....Put that Brew to Good use in the GARDEN and Around the Homestead
Oh just stop....I know...I know...how could I? Well I am talking about that bombshell leftovers after a wicked BBQ party, don't just throw out that stale yucky beer, put it to good use, even if you have a hangover...c'mon, you know you wanna read the rest. It would be simpler to just dump it but you would be surprised.
Lets start off with it's uses for CLEANING THINGS
I personally have used this in the past on my mahogany table and it works wonders, only after I stopped my dog from liking the table, lol. Pour a bit of beer (non foamy stuff) on a cleaning rag, and wipe away.
Clean Jewelry not that I have a tremendous amount of it, BECAUSE I AM A HOMESTEADER but it works great for cleaning metals.
Beer is also great for cleaning coffee and tea stains on carpets and clothing. just add a little to a bucket of warm water and dap it onto the spot let sit for a few minutes and wham your stain is gone.
Now to uses for our Body, and I am still not referring to drinking the stuff.
Beer is actually a great conditioner for your hair. Yes I have tried it, and it wasn't bad at all, took the tangles out of my long hair.
Beer is actually considered a teeth whitener, but I am skeptical, because all the alcoholics I know have rotten teeth, so you be the verdict and give it a go.
Beer is actually good for Head Lice. Apparently if you pour it on your head and leave in for a few minutes it kills the bug. Can't try it cause I don't have lice, Nor do I want it. Years ago having 2 girls in elementary with long hair was enough.
Finally, you can soak your feet in this stuff called BEER. I have actually tried this and yes it did make my skin tingle and feel softer after 20 minutes. It loosened the dead dry stuff on my heels.
Now onto the Garden and around the homestead (the good stuff)
You can make a humane Mouse trap with beer, just pour a bottle into a pail and place a board into the pail for the mice to run down, they wont be able to run back up as they will be drunk, so then you can carry them out to the bush.
Using beer to distract bee's and wasps. Just pour a bit into a mason jar with some paper towel in it, and set it away from your deck's, patio's and porches and they bee's and wasp's will be attracted to the beer away from you.
Beer is also great for those nasty fruit flies. just place a bit in a container wrap the top with Glad wrap, the see through stuff and secure it over the container with an elastic, then poke a few small holes for the flies to get in and then they cannot get out.
Do you have a rusty screw or nut that you need to loosen, just soak it for a bit in a bit of beer and then give it a go. If it is already attached to something then just pour your beer right on it and wait a bit, then try and repeat. I have personally tried this one and it works great.
Do you have brown spots on your lawn? Then just spray some beer on it and it will come back to life. I am currently in the process of trying out this one, I will mention my results in the comments below when I notice a rejuvenation.
If you place a small pie dish or low container with beer in it, in your garden, at night, the slugs and some other nasty pests will find their way to your brew and leave your plants alone. I have tried this and this one does work well, I might add, my cabbage will make it this year.
Go ahead and pour some on your plants. Yeast is a naturally great fertilizer. Do make sure your beer is flat when using on your plants.
Now onto Food uses
You can make Beer batter for fish and chicken.
You can make Beer Bread, lots of recipes for this and have done so myself, it wasn't too too bad.
and lastly you can use it as a merinade to tenderize those tough meats.
So there you have it folks, ALL THINGS BEER, for the home, Body and Garden and not just for the Belly.
Happy trails

thank you so much.
i am pleasure.
I'm not a beer drinker, but if any finds it's way into my home we usually put it in the slowcooker with whatever cut of meat and some seasoning. Now you've given me lots more ideas!
I'm not really a beer drinker either, Canadian Beer is too strong for me with 5% and all, but my neighbor sure is and willingly hands me what I need.
I think you must have been sampling a few kinds of those brews to write this post as there is a distinct difference from your usual style.

Oh, I was saying
Yes, I was saying, about the soak your feet section...
Oh yes, this sounds lovely and they can leave all that cleaning up to whoever falls for it, I mean kindly offers to help clean up.
Buy more beer and let the leavings sit near a good foot soaking tub as a trap!!!,,,!!!..,,,!!! and hope the gopher , oh, no, sorry, different article.
Too funny. I don't drink beer, I am Canadian and our beer is retarded, it has 5% alcohol, that puts me down for the count after like 2-3. My neighbor has a healthy appetite for the brewskies so he is always more than happy to share with me whatever my homestead needs, and he usually get cucumbers and a homemade jar of my salsa as a return on his beer contributions. LOL
It's funny that you say that because my favorite beer is a Canadian beer, Labatt Blue. :-)
I can only drink 1 beer at a sitting, one is enough to make me a bit loopy, especially if I haven't eaten anything in a while. I must admit, there's just something about a cold beer at the end of a hot day that is very satisfying.
I have used beer as bait in fruit fly traps, it works pretty well.
Labatt's Blue, used to drink it way back when. I have moved to a liter beer if I were to have one or be offered to one, as I really do not drink.
Nothing wrong with that.
Most awesome !! Thanks for more info , more is good .
I love your blogs @gardengirlcanada
Thank you for your kind words
Great post! Definitely gonna try this in the garden. Thanks for sharing 🤗
