8 Things We Miss About Neopets - It's Not Just For The Ladies!

in #gaming7 years ago

Do you guys even remember Neopets? It's the web-based game that was really popular at least a decade ago. It's still around now, but we're not sure if it's as popular as it used to be. Eons since we last played it.

What is Neopets?

It's a very cute browser game where everyone will own a pet (or more) and you can do all sorts of things. There are many mini games at the arcade section, contests, exploration to do, own a shop, paint your pet and so on.

It's a pretty all-rounded game so it was quite fun back then. It probably worked because the pets are super cute as well! Without further ado, here are things we miss about Neopets.

1. Super adorable pets

Of course, the name Neopets has to come from somewhere. The pets are really cute (credits to the one who created them) and back then, you would love to own one of these neopets!

You can even adopt some of them at the pet pound. You'll feel pity for them and probably end up adopting one yourself!

These pets can learn certain skills or stats as well, by doing activities. If not mistaken, the pets could level up and gain stats like attack and defense, and also via codestones. Pretty cool eh?

2. Neopia

Neopia refers to the world of Neopets. It consists of many maps and each map as a list of things to do!

The image is an example of one of the maps, i.e. Neopia Central. You can buy all kinds of supplies for your pet!

Here's a list of all of the maps. There are a few maps we were particularly fond of, i.e. Faerieland, Haunted Woods and Meridell.

The diversity of choices keeps the game alive TBH.

3. Giant Omelette

Oh yes, anyone who has played Neopets will definitely remember the Giant Omelette.

Who doesn't want free omelettes every single day? We don't remember the exact name of where the omelette's located, but the map's pretty brown. Some prehistoric place.

Whenever we ask anyone what they remember about Neopets, here it is!

4. The mini games!

There's sort of an arcade section on Neopets and they host so many mini games. Sometimes they have special games from sponsored events. For e.g. some movies advertise on Neopets in the form of games instead.

We particularly loved Meerca Chase (which is similar to Nokia's snake game), Turmac Roll and Dubloon Disaster. That was probably because they paid well.

You can earn neopoints via playing these games. It really depends on your personal preference. You may be better in some games over the others and you can earn more from them.

5. Codestones

Oh yes, codestones were pretty valuable back then, and some were rarer than others.

What are these Codestones for?

You can use them at the Mystery Island to train your pets (increase the level). For e.g. beginner may require only 1 or 2 codestones, but as your level is higher, more codestones are required.

When your pet levels up, so does its stats (if we recall correctly).

What's the purpose of increasing stats?

You can actually participate in battles against other pets in Battledomes.

6. Wheel of Fortune!

Everyone loves to spin the wheel of fortune as you can get some useful items. There are other different wheels in Neopia like the Wheel of Excitement and we believe all of these can only be spun once a day.

Hence, some players even made a list of things that you should do every day (like a routine). For e.g. you need to collect your free omelette, free jelly, spin the wheels, do some faerie quests, earn neopoints via games and so on.

We had our own routine as well since we wanted to maximize productivity.

7. Quests!

There are quests to do each day as well, and one of those quest-givers was the faerie located in Faerieland (duh).

The reason we do quests is to of course earn useful items but they aren't that easy though. Surprisingly, Neopets wasn't an "easy" game to play despite it looking all childish and stuff. Some of the contests were so difficult back then.

We also remember the Brain Tree located in Haunted Woods and we never, ever solved a quiz from Brain Tree! Maybe we're just dumb.

Bottomline is, there were many quests to do but they weren't all that easy.

8 Owning a Shop

There was a time everyone had a shop, with their own wallpaper and music playing in the background.

The OST for Pirates of the Caribbean was used for our shop! Pretty cool eh. We could sell all of the things that we don't need for more neopoints, to buy awesome stuff.

We bought a very expensive paintbrush as well, just to paint our pet Shoyru.

Do you guys remember selling stuff as well?

In a nutshell

Neopets was a really fun game to play as a kid. There were so many things to do on it that it wasn't that boring (despite being a browser game). It's still around so you can actually check it out.

Oh my gosh, Neopets! I knew it sounded familiar! I used to spend so much time on that :D

Going to check it out and see if I can still figure out login details!

Good luck! I lost my password years ago but luckily i gave away all of my precious items to other players before i left..

Hah, I managed to do a password recovery. My poor pet is starving!

You could send your pet to neolodge so that your pet could stay there for 30 days. They could be fed and taken care of by neolodge.

Poor pet :(
