Thunder Storm in Autumn

in #art8 years ago (edited)

This original artwork is by a friend of mine. By day: Mild-mannered office worker. By night, (or whenever she decides to create): Amazing and thoughtful artist. I'm privileged to have the chance, and permission, to present her work to you and was given the opportunity to select the piece I presented first. I have chosen this lovely work which the artist calls: Thunder Storm in Autumn

When I quizzed Sonia about the thought and emotion behind the piece she told me it's about, "Opposites and the unexpected."

The piece depicts a log cabin, warm and inviting within surrounded by a furious thunder storm all encapsulated within a closed glass jar, which rests suspended from the bough of a tree in the ease of an Autumn day.

To me it speaks of the comfort one may feel deep within oneself, (the comfort of the warm cosy cabin) despite being wracked with emotional turmoil from external sources (the thunder storm) all the while residing in a world that seems bright and comfortable (the Autumn day) to everyone but that person suffering the turmoil; A reality residing in Autumn though heading towards the winter that has already struck at the heart of the person.

The artist also suggested that it speaks of cognitive dissonance: To establish confusion and yet it makes comfortable sense if you sit with it long enough as you justify why it's there; All elements separate but working together."

Sonia also feels it hints and the sense of general wonder. "How did the jar get there? Was it hung by someone who abandoned it? Was it hung to keep it safe?"

I have known Sonia for little while now, we work together, and I've come to see her as a fun and life-loving person. She makes me laugh a lot and is enjoyable to be around. She has a certain way about her. Quirky? Well, yes for sure, but she also conveys trust, honesty, dependability and comfort to me. She's a deep thinker with a light-hearted side and her work reflects that. I look forward to sharing some more of her work moving forward as she has done some amazing pieces; Her use of colour and eclectic subject matter reflects her nature perfectly.

Isn't it interesting that, like with the cabin, in the storm, in the jar, in Autumn... A person also has the ability to be many and varied things but still just be one thing...Themselves. That's the beauty of being human I think.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed Sonia's work as much as I always do.

The painting is lovely. I didn't notice the storm at first. I just noticed the cabin within the jar.

When something is closed off, it means either for privacy or protection. The image gives me the impression of someone who sees the beauty in the world albeit, battles life daily. He or she has closed the war within their selves and doesn't want the world to intrude until it is sorted out.

It could also be that it is a dangerous person with a veneer of calm before the world but he or she is battling control of whatever demons buffets him or her. The protection he or she has created to prevent the demons from being unleashed to the whole world is as fragile as the glass jar. How long will it hold the danger in before it is let lose on the world?

I like the way this painting can be perceived many different ways depending on who is looking at it. I think I like the second interpretation you offered.

Nice one. Thanks for commenting. :)

That is the beauty of art; there are no definite perceptive. Even the artist does not follow comprehend the scope of his or her creation in affecting the person enjoying the work of art. That is why I love writing fiction and poetry. Interpretation can be complex and vast.
You should invite her, Sonia, I mean, to steemit. She will do fine here.

She would for sure however I stopped inviting people to steemit after many people wasted my time. I’d explain it, offer them assistance and then...Nothing. One even joined, posted once and then...Nothing.

And so I stay silent.

I have had that experience too. I have stopped myself because it seemed as if I was talking about something that wasn't real.

People would rather give their best to a boss who pays them peanuts than to something that could change their lives.

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

You can lead a horse to water, you can’t make it drink.

Why isn't Sonia on Steemit? :) We need more excellent art. That's my "official area" of expertise.

I love the small details in the painting, like the fact that the rope is fraying. A very topical image given events of today, too.

Yes, her artwork is pretty special. I haven’t told her about steemit to be honest. Just hasn’t come up. She knows I do some blog thing but that’s about it.
