Plough on
Life hasn't always been as easy as it is now, there were times where a person had to scratch and scrape, claw themselves forward each day...And that was just to survive, let alone thrive!
Back then...
It's cold and you want to be warm? Go chop wood. You're hungry and want to eat? Go plant and tend your garden, fields or livestock. Marauders threatening your family? Grab your pitchfork, axe or sword and go protect them. Want water? Dig a well or take a bucket to the creek. Need an implement to complete a task? Make it, or trade something precious to you for it. Sick? Hope you will get better but probably die.
Now...
Hungry? Uber eats. Hot? Air conditioning. Need Want something? Credit card. Want more? More credit cards. Want success? Wait for it to fall in your lap. No self esteem? Put your boobs on Instagram. iPhone 11 months old? Buy a new one. Old as fuck but still want to have a baby? Have IVF! Sick? Get drugs and live until you're 137.
I think you get the idea.
Remember hard work? Well it doesn't really happen these days much. I mean don't get me wrong, lot's of people work hard but life is just easier these days and so we don't really need to work as hard. It's a more sedentary life. When was the last time you had to hook up a plough horse to your plough to prepare your fields for planting? Yep, never. It's cool though, I mean it's just progress right? I don't mind the fact that things seem easier...
...It's laziness I can't abide. Sure, there's always been lazy people but it seems to be a national past time these days! I'm sure Universities' offer degrees in it too! There's a whole generation of people out there with their hand held firmly outwards with palm up waiting for something to fall on it...You know, handouts!. It's much easier to expect and receive than earn what we get these days and the strong movement advocating the everybody wins ethos ensures there's no shortage of people out there simply sitting back waiting for something to happen.
Steem is a little different though. It's tough, and simply sticking your hand out for some handouts doesn't ensure they will come. In fact even hard work can pay remarkably low initial dividends. Users have to do something for it, for the rewards I mean. Sure, you might get a little SP delegated to you if you're lucky, but that doesn't last forever and in truth it's not yours, the delegator owns it. You have to work for what you want here. Unless you want failure and if that's what you want you'll get it in abundance just by sitting back and waiting for it to come. I promise you.
Grind it out, apply effort, ownership and responsibility to what you do here, and you may get the reward you're looking for. That's my advice, although you don't have to take it. Sure, find yourself a sugar-daddy or mommy, wank your way into a circle-jerk, whore yourself out there...Those things may work for you also, for a while probably, but once that wank-circle runs dry then what? That's rhetorical, I don't expect anyone to answer it. We all know what happens.
Anyway, we all have choices in life, real life, and the life we make on steem for ourselves. We have the choice to take our lives, apply a healthy dose of effort and ownership, and work towards something, or we can sit around with our hands out hoping something may fall in it.
Plough the fields, plant the crop, tend it, nurture it and then reap the rewards of your labour. Or beg for the scraps from someone else's table.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default

I still remember having to write letter and putting them in the mail or even faxing! Everything changes quickly and we need to adapt to leverage the opportunities like Steem!

Yeah, stuff changes...But I lament some of the changes. I'm a simple person deep down and miss that simplicity life used to have. Just me, I know most would disagree.

You have to make things happen or you go nowhere.

Yep, more rewarding for me when I've applied positive action and received a result...Way better feeling than stuff falling on a silver platter...Although that has its benefits and attractions too. :)
Really good read and very true. Regarding to "Now" I feel these days there has to be a compitation for some people. Of course they want the latest handset mentioning your example iPhone although they don't need it. They just don't want to be left behind. These people cannot be and will never be contented.

I guess it’s subjective, meaning that everyone has a different scenario. My post generalises a lot but I feel quite strongly that consumerism doesn’t lead to contentment like you suggest.
Thanks for your comment.

People can lack perspective. I had a friend complain about being 'poor' 10 minutes after talking about binge watching a TV show on Netflix. Leisure time is wealth.
If you can afford to spend 12 hours straight on the couch; instead of out fishing or scrounging for food; you're not poor.
I think we'd be positively screwed if we had to go back to that world, you know? Well, not actually screwed, we'd probably work it out in some time, but still..we're far less prepared to work now than we were two hundred years ago.
And today, we expect instant results. Used to be, people knew how to wait, you know? Now, we want to have it and we want to have it now, so we can show off to our friends. Besides, who has time to wait? Our busy, Instagram lives wait for no man.
Fuck, I sound like an old grumpy man...maybe I am...
