My truck, spotify and the open road...

in #travelfeed6 years ago

It's only Thursday but my weekend has started. It's a good thing, I'm not complaining! I took Friday off from work this week and managed to disappear at lunch time on Thursday (Today)...I had "appointments" so just had to leave...OK, so my appointments just may have been with my truck, Spotify and the open road...It's just semantics though right? I left. Nuff said.

So, I took off heading to the South East and the small town of Mount Gambier some 450km away for a shooting competition. I'm not actually shooting in this one myself though; I'm one of the organisers of this particular competition and as such have official duties such as being one of the range officers. It's a practical shooting competition so there'll be lot's of running and gunning rather than standing or lying still. Anyway, I'm in Mount Gambier for three nights.

On the way here I passed by loads of canola fields which is what you're looking at in the pictures below. Canola, or rape seed as it is sometimes known, flowers with the most amazing yellow flower and the fields come to life with colour. It's a nice contrast against green fields and blue skies and always reminds me that the world is emerging from Winter and Spring has sprung.

My photo's don't really do it justice I guess. You kind of had to be there. The one above is the same field from the wider shot below with my truck in it. I didn't bring my Landcruiser for this trip as the range is down a pretty savage road; It's an old limestone quarry and it's supposed to rain so I thought the truck would be a better choice. Besides, I had to carry stuff. I was hoping to do some off-roading on the way here as there's loads of pine forests down this way. This area is known for logging and logging trails are known to be narley at times. Anyway, I was unable to as the weather turned. It's no fun getting bogged in a mud bog when there's no one to pull you out. Besides, I had on my good boots...

So, here I am in a country accommodation, which is pretty good by most standards. There's a bed, a small two-seater lounge, a bathroom and most importantly a heater. It's bloody cold and is bucketing with rain outside.

Tomorrow I'll head to the range to start getting things organised with the other 10 or so guys and by Saturday morning some 100 shooters will descend on the range to duke it out for the win. I'd normally have some photo's for you from the event but my wife didn't make the trip. She's usually official event photographer. I may get a few here and there but will need to put most of my effort into ensuring a safe event.

I'm feeling good about my long weekend to be honest. Well, that is except for the fact I have a head-cold. I'll tough-it-out though and push on. I hope everyone has a great Friday and an excellent weekend ahead as well.

Oh, I miss spring. I miss summer...

The first photo looks like you could just touch the closest cloud. It seems to be that low. And one of the clouds is sitting on the power line. Or phone line if there are such things anymore.

It was a nice day for a drive and after passing by field after field decided to stop and take a photo. The contrasting colours was spectacular. I think lines you refer to are power. I never actually noticed them when I was there to be honest. The cloud turned into rain the further southeast I got and it's still bucketing down @insaneworks

Here's anther pic from today. These are the wheat silos at Coonalpyn. See the artwork? These silos are immense...The artist used local school kids as the models then painted them on the silos.

The colors and the contrast in those blue and yellow photos really are impressive. And what a gorgeous peace of work you fond! A genius idea.

So that's why the clouds were hanging so low. They were heavy with rain and snatching some power from the people. :D

Happy travelling hope you have an exciting, not very cold adventure!
