The relation between upvotes and the basic income in 3 countries - work a day per year
A minimum wage is the lowest remuneration that employers may legally pay to workers. Equivalently, it is the price floor below which workers may not sell their labor. Although, minimum wage laws are in effect in many jurisdictions, differences of opinion exist about the benefits and drawbacks of a minimum wage.
Hello, community! My name is Bogdan, but I go with the user name @gaitan here. Glad to meet you. Recently I was talking with some friends about Steemit, advising them to sign up (a philosophy graduate and a marketing start-up owner). After explaining how this platform works, we got to a minimum wage discussion and I was inspired to write a few lines here.
First we have to mention the countries with the greatest minimum wage
- Australia - $9.54
- Luxembourg - $9.24
- Belgium - $8.57
- Ireland - $8.46
- France - $8.24
We can agree that living with the minimum wage is not great and can have an impact on you and you life, even if is the best one in the world. In this 5 countries, the products or services are more expensive than anywhere else. But still, is a good amount.
Getting to the countries with the smallest minimum wage, things are bad...
- Georgia with 136 $ a year! Yes, that's right. The caucasian country was a part of the Soviet Union until its disintegration, the country declared independence on 9 April 1991, which led to many conflicts and the Russo-Georgian War in 2008. The country looks great.
- Cuba with 108 $ a year! Even lower than Georgia. As for Cuba’s economy, the state owns most of the production means, along with the labor force. However, as of today, 22% of the country’s employment rate belongs to the private sector. However, the payment is a bit different since the country still, to some extent, relies on the principles of socialism. A private firm usually makes the payment to the government, then the government pays the employee, deducing the taxes.
- Uganda: having declared independence from Britain in 1962, Uganda today has to struggle with a lot of internal conflicts (child abuse, terrorism etc.). When it comes to wages, an Ugandan worker on the minimum wage has to work 40 hours a week for a yearly minimum salary of $29 or a minimum monthly salary of $2,42 (around 6000 Ugandan shillings). Uganda is the top country where minimum wage is the lowest.
I know this is not exactly how things work but imagine a Steemer from Georgia, Cuba or Uganda. He or she can make more than a year minimum wage in one hour of work, at most! He or she can travel to other countries, see the world, other cities, help other people around and giving more time to education rather than working for a minimum wage.
It could be done by just one upvote from @berniesanders which values at over 200 Steem Dollars or from the celebrity bots (@wang, @itsascam, @steemed)
This may seem like propaganda but I really believe that someday, we can all live nice and well, and in my opinion Steemit is not just for original content, I think it's more about empowering people.
Thank you!
Regards,

Great post I upvoted! Good work
Totally agree with you, if community comes together we can help each other. Great idea but i think they have technological disadvantage. If they are earning $30-150 per year most likely they don't have internet or a computer. younger generation will be OK but what about elders the ones that really needs help?
They have Internet but is not cheap. It's a vicious circle. No Internet > no steemit > no money > no Internet
Downvoted. Just kidding!
Excellent read. I feel even more empowered after reading your blog.

hi, Your photos are not showing up.
Edited now! Thanks!
I'm very sceptical about your minimum wage data, I think it might be quite old. First of all, Norway should be on that list. We acctually dont have minimum wage, but a fair salary comparison is gas station and mcdonalds workers. They have from 17$ - 25$ per hour, dependant on their age. 16-18 years get about 17-19$. Also this wikipedia site(I know, dont trust completly on wikipedia): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minimum_wages_by_country shows that minimum wage in Australia is much higher than what you have posted here.
Here is another article backing up my claims: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-05-31/minimum-wage-how-does-australia-compare/7461794
I would like to know your sources for these minimum wage datas
Indeed, maybe some of the data are older than I might think. I will edit the article later with the data you provided! Thank you!

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 7.4 and reading ease of 75%. This puts the writing level on par with Tom Clancy and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
