Eating too much around Christmas time?

in #christmas6 years ago

Christmas time is surrounded by many traditions anywhere is celebrated.

One of them that I think is relatively universal is spending more time around family during the holidays, and in many cases eating homemade products.

Well, maybe the last part has lost some of its roots with the supermarket shopping and all the possible variations to choose from, but it's still strong.

I like homemade cooking, in fact I think it's much healthier than many half or fully prepared products we can buy in a supermarket. But that of course comes with a cost in time.

And if you stick to traditions, and they are not very friendly with lazy and immobile modern individuals staying in well heated homes, compared to the people of the time when they came into being, that doesn't look like a healthy combination.

Today we had guests. Extended family. We exchanged gifts at the beginning, we talked, we laughed, we listened to my nieces sing (they even have a real microphone, karaoke style), we drank (well, most of us), and we ate. Apart from exchanging gifts, not necessarily in this order.

The food part is... a lot. I personally loved the apple cake (of which I took a double slice, lol).

Tomorrow we do it all over again, but we are the guests.

So far none of my organs protested. But there's of course tomorrow.

Luckily we'll have a week of vacation right after this, and plenty of time to visit Athens. Otherwise New Year celebration would be also mainly about food.

I know in other areas of the globe, people eat differently, so they might have no idea why food would be a problem during Christmas time here in Romania. Maybe it would be a good idea to adapt our traditions to the homo "modernus", or adapt our lifestyles to fit our ancient traditions, which mainly means being much more active (outside, in the cold).

How are you guys dealing with food around Christmas time?

Merry Christmas, @gadrian. It's true, these days there is plenty of food and invitations to eat. Always have a digestive on hand. It's very good to share as a family

This year in my country, we have lived Christmas with many sacrifices and austerity due to the economic situation due to hyperinflation. We have tried not to let joy die, in spite of the fact that in many families there are members who are missing because they emigrated; we have been in a family and each one has contributed what they could to share the Christmas Eve dinner.

Our greatest wish is for better times to come.

A Christmas hug for you.

It's so unfortunate what happens with people when big boys have something to fight over.

I'm glad to hear you keep the tradition and enjoy a little bit of Christmas, despite all the adversity.

Merry Christmas to you too!
