Black Panther: Review

in #blog8 years ago (edited)
Good day my dear steemians.

This time I give you my review about the newest addition to the MCU (Marvel’s cinematographic universe) Black Panther.

I must say that when I just saw it I decided that the movie deserved a review and wrote it immediately, but I thought that it would be better if I waited a couple of days so that way everyone got a chance to see the movie. I used that time to see it again and consolidate everything I thought about it.

This post has spoilers so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, crawl out of the cave where you have been hiding and run to see it, then come back and read this.

Soundtrack

Let’s start with the soundtrack, composed by Ludwig Göransson, excellent balance between the hip-hop, rap and tribal rythms that is heavy influenced by, if you take into account the different background and locations that the hero and the villain are from it makes all the sense in the world why this three genre are the bases of the music. Every one of the songs in the background of the movie had a perfect timing, helping to give the tone of the scene and distinguish who was in the center of the story at that moment, to do that, each of the characters or groups had their own characteristic rhythm.

Is important to say that, in here, I’m only talking about the music in the background of the movie, Disney released a whole Album dedicated to the movie, this one by Kendrick Lamar, About the album I’m not gonna talk much about because I haven’t been able to listen it completely, but if you want to know more about that one and know Spanish go read the the review of my great friend and music geek Jose Miguel (links below).

Acting

Having in mind how suitable can be the election in casting when is in the hands of Marvel, is not a surprise that the acting of this movie nailed, it was noted how each and every one of the actors took the role and made it their own, maybe some of them felt out of places sometimes, but to the main actors, the role fit like a glove, highlighting the actors Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright. All of them deserve a standing ovation for their work; a king committed to his people that would give anything for them, but that intelligently could see that, as a king, he had to take decisions that might not be liked for everyone.

Now I’m gonna talk about every actor I think was important to the story, those who did it great, good or simply didn’t had enough time in frame to their potential, individually.

Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa / Black Panther)

The King, it wasn’t a moment on the movie where the performance was out of place, He knew what he had to do and he did it.

It was simply Perfect (something that a lot of critics took in a bad way), the character was in a discovery path to answer one thing, how to be the best king that the nation of Wakanda needs and, after a lot of inconveniences, he reaches his goal.

Michael B. Jordan (Erik Killmonger)

Redemption, there is no other way of putting his acting given his role as Human Torch in the reboot of the fantastic four, the ideal villain, a good reason that make us connect with him, the right use of his past to explain his way of acting and for real one of the best Marvel Villain of the MCU, even reaching the TOP 3 (nobody will beat Loki to my eyes).

Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia)

No history is complete without a love interest, the great about this one is, that she is not only there to be a love interest but instead, you can see the weight the character has to the plot, She is a great spy who wants to make the world a better place. As always Lupita doesn’t disappoint with her spectacular performance.

Danai Gurira (Okoye)

Personally I didn’t know the actress until her appearance in this world (I have never seen The Walking Dead) but she surprised me, in the way she could quickly changes between being the focus and centered person of the screen and then the one who can make us laugh with a vicious comment blow me away, and this increased if she had the help of one other character on the scene. Her interpretation was great, you could see the hard training she did to become the general of such a prestigious royal guard.

Letitia Wright (Shuri)

Young people are destined to control the industry and with her we can see it becoming a reality, a fresh and fun character to balance the serious tone of some scenes, she had two purposes and she fulfilled them wonderfully, being the funny point of the scene upsetting his big brother and proving that age is not an impediment to have an extraordinary intellect, sometimes impertinent (a thing that can be attributed to Shuri’s age in the movie) the character flowed with nature. A big potential to be fear in this actress.

Angela Bassett (Ramonda / Queen Mother)

My voodoo queen, although I felt like she didn’t have the time she deserved on screen, she had a lot of good moments when given the focus an actress like her deserves. She showed us the determination of a mother, how she worries and the pain that can be feel when she sees her children be harmed.

Martin Freeman (Everett K. Ross)

Source

silly and jocose like only Watson can be… o I’m sorry wrong character, Ross is represented with the vibe that characterize Martin so much, more than anything for comedy at his expenses but coming to be important and serious when the story needs it to be.

Daniel Kaluuya (W’Kabi)

One of the few characters that seems off to me, even though you understand from where come his resentment, his story about the friend that turns against his friend simply didn’t sold to me. As to the actor performance, it had his strong points as scenes when he didn’t had enough passion.

Winston Duke (M’Baku)

In the performance he sold the primitive character who doesn’t want anything to do with current live and wants the throne to change things to the way he things is right. As for the character himself, at the begging it was good and his motivation flowed well at the end the change in his alliance didn’t had a lot of sense at least that you take his change of mind for the only reason of helping the hero and do the ground work for the movies to come.

As I’m quite emotional, I loved the story of the actor and I’m going to share a little bit of it with you. He graduated of drama acting alongside to Lupita Nyong’o and in 2012 they saw together Avengers, the Movie, when they left the theater, they made a promise to each other, that one day they would act together in a high budget movie like that one, and as you can see, they are here and soon to be in the newest Avengers movie (Avengers: Infinity War).

Andy Serkis (Ulysses KLaue)

The performance was on point, he demonstrated the insanity that should be in a mind of a person who has been pursued for almost 30 years and on the way lose an arm (anyone loses their mind with that). In the character point of view, He started strong but had a culmination that seems unfair, a misuse of the final moments of a great villain.

Story

Finally the story as a whole, in my appreciation the movie has a 8.5/10, the threading of the plot was good, the villain motivation was on point and catching.

Some weak points, the changes of side without a good reason and not using more of Killmonger in the movie (but this is just something personal).

I recommend it if you want to had a pleasant time with your buddies or just as you scream at the top of your lungs :

¡WAKANDA FOREVER!
