Legacy's Inspiration - For #celfchallenge writers winners

in #celfchallenge6 years ago

So, this has been one of the most difficult post to write, and I have thought and re-thought, wrote and re-wrote and it never flows good enough for me, but here we go again. Good luck for myself.

Gabrielle Delgado - Inspiration for Legacy
Take 30 - ACTION!

When I read the writers callback for the CELF contest and the themes that we could work with, I knew I should go for the fairy tale one, those who know me knows my personality and way of work leans to that side of the balance, that was the easy part of the creative process because from there I get a pour down of ideas and thoughts. Now I had to choose how I was going to focus down all of that.

That same week I saw the trailer to the rebooted series “Charmed”, plus I just finished watching “The Originals”. I wasn’t hard to predict where my mind would go from there. I always felt a connection with the “witches” theme, when I was a little girl that was the costume I liked the most, growing up I developed a fondness for the Salem Witches, AHS Coven fed that and I haven’t started talking about Harry Potter, I always waited for my Hogwarts letter.

In short, I always felt that I belong there but at the same time I knew it was a bit silly. Deep inside me, I like to believe I’m a witch because sometimes without wanting it I can see the future (? Maybe channeling better my energies I could dominate this supernatural power haha) I had the theme. Witches.

While thinking on how I wanted to make the story, the Blacks Genealogical Tree from Harry Potter came to my mind, I wanted to recreate the scene at Grimmund Place 12 - I even wanted to do a gif about it but time was against me- so I began to search the internet for genealogical trees to build the last 4 or 5 generations of that family. But I still didn’t have a plot and not one that began and finished in the same post - that was really hard for me.

Here my head got an avalanche of ideas, curses, and pact with the devil, white witches, dark witches, a lot of references came and I wanted to use them all but I didn’t know how to organize them, I even wrote those in my notebook that I use to create the plots of each story I create and I knew I wanted to empower women - which I do in almost all my stories -

Lastly, I needed names, and as I have a passion for the unnatural world of witches I feel the same for mythology, especially the Nordic one, and no this passion didn’t began when I saw Marvel’s Thor. I began way earlier with Age of Mythology, evolving from the greek to the roman and the roman to the Nordic, I always liked those, of course, if I liked witches the same goes for a goddess.

After that, I just have little details of creating the images and with the names in mind sit down to write. When I do this everything comes by itself, I don’t stick with what I have in my mind but let the idea flows and transform along the way, I let it evolve by itself, I don’t stop the creative process at any moment and that way the best ideas come forth. Of course, after I finish creating the content I re-read it a lot of times looking for mistakes and inconsistencies and from there I edit the story.

The inspiration for all my stories always comes from something I already saw the same day or maybe that same week, a little bug that sticks in my head and is let loose in my imagination. As you can see, this story was influenced by a bunch of series, movies, and stories and even with that it still feel original, I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
