Dead PC Gaming Technologies

in #gaming6 years ago

The technology is constantly evolving, showing really surprising innovations in some cases, this allows us gamers either consoles or PC enjoy different experiences that sometimes are something totally unforgettable.

Many times we get a great impression when we first see an advance of some new technology, causing a very high emotional effect, but time decides if that new technology will stay forever among us, since it is something that only the user can decide.

In the world of PC gaming new things or updates are always coming out, thanks to them they are transferred to other types of entertainment such as game consoles, some are still ruling the market today, but others were completely forgotten. Here you will learn about some gaming PC technologies that were buried in the past.

Displays - 3D monitors

Since the movie Avatar appeared in theaters the 3D visualization would become a really profitable business for many companies, making a lot of monitors and televisions that had this effect, so it would undoubtedly come to video games.

At that time many people thought that this was something new, however, this was already something that had many years of being created, consoles like the Famicom of Nintendo already had some glasses that made a 3D effect in video games, even though they were ahead of their time already had a very clear idea of how to achieve this effect.

But in the year 2009 was where this technology really exploded, companies like Nintendo would launch a handheld called Nintendo 3DS which had such an effect without the need to use special glasses.

Companies were trying to place 3D visualization as the future, but unfortunately over time this would become secondary, for example, Nintendo would release the successor to the 3DS called 2DS, completely omitting the 3D feature which was no longer being taken advantage of by the games on that handheld console.

Then the virtual reality glasses would come in, completely obscuring the 3D screens, making for a unique video game experience. This shows that over time other technologies always come out, closing in on cycles of others, implying that the future is never predetermined.

Mantle API

All PC gamers know that to be able to run their games they need an API which takes care of rendering various aspects of their games, among the most famous are DirectX, OpenGL and the recent Vulkan which have survived over the years thanks to their excellent performance.

However, AMD in 2013 would announce a new API which its developers indicated would completely revolutionize the gaming area of the PC called Mantle, this would be exclusive to their graphics cards, demonstrating its results in video games like Battlefield 4.

Despite its marketing this technology did not attract much attention from the gamer community, leaving aside its development in just two years, ie, in 2015 and AMD would not give more support to Mantle, but it would not be the end for AMD with the API as it would start the development of Vulkan which is still active today.

Vulkan has demonstrated its potential in several video games, one of them was Doom 4, giving really incredible results, becoming an important API for many games in the future especially for AMD graphics cards.

Companies and developers are constantly programming to innovate and bring new technologies to gaming users, the latter are the ones who will always have the decision if it will last in time or not, unless something totally new and innovative is launched that opaques the market, the important thing is to enjoy the experience that each one of them brings to us.

Have you ever used any of these technologies? Tell me your experience in the comments section.
