Photos from a better time in Da Nang

I've been doing a lot of complaining from my relative palace and have been trying to put things into perspective. I do NOT agree with how this government is handling Covid. The only countries that I really do respect for their handling is the ones that have just kind of gotten out of the way and let nature run its course.

Once this rather severe lockdown is over, it isn't really going to change anything in my mind. We are just going to find ourselves in a New Zealand type situation where we can never open to the outside world again and with the level of human trafficking that goes on in this or through this country good luck with that I suppose.

I wanted to share some images from some "better days" back when we were not only allowed, but encouraged to go and do stuff.

Lady Buddha - which is called something else that I forgot - is one of the iconic symbols of Da Nang and she overlooks the bay and can be seen from just about anywhere on the coast for miles because she is really big. It's not Statue of Liberty huge, but it's close.

This is located in the same complex and once again, I have no idea what it is called. Something Pagoda I think. I am shockingly unaware of my surroundings for someone that has been here for years. I guess that is what I get for working online.

This is just one of the glorious places that Da Nang has to offer and at some point I am hopeful that we will be able to enjoy them again. Everyone talks about how much they would like to get out of here but I think that anyone who was being forced to put up with what we are being forced to put up with would be unhappy no matter where they are in the world. I guess it just makes it seem more tough to us because we also have to be concerned about how we are going to get our next visa extension as well.

There's a lot of great nature here and when you consider that in the grand scheme of things this government is actually quite poor, it is pretty amazing that they are able to maintain these areas as well as they do.
