What is steemit and how it works
We're trying to break all the frontiers to make blockchain mainstream and it looks like we're making a good job. When I say we it's because putting up content and educating people about blockchain technology, we all take another step closer to get our freedom back from government and all the centralized institutions that make us a sitting duck.

Just to clarify,the whitepaper is outdated. Steem inflation is not 100% per year anymore, it's around 10% and gradually going down for the next 20 years.
Power down period is also not 104 weeks but 13 weeks.
Rewarding users is not an end in itself, the real goal of steem is to bootstrap a currency that people use in the real world, which is why people are incentivized to hold their steem. Soon you will be able to buy many thing with steem but we are still early in developement
