Pit People (Xbox One, PC) Review
Credits
The Behemoth - creators of the legendary Castle Crashers - has done it again. It was already talked about a few months ago in lot of previews about Pit People that things looked good. And now, after the release of its final version, we can confirm it: it's pure fun! Attentive because, undoubtedly, we are facing one of the capped 2018. A game that, without making much noise, will provide hours and hours of fun to those who give it a chance. Turn-based combat, hilarious humor and remarkable playability are its main weapons. Do you dare to try it?
Content
The first contact with the game through its hilarious tutorial already invites optimism. The narrator - to which Will Stamper puts voice, which he repeats after BattleBlock Theater - is, simply, brutal, while the first playable concepts on which Pit People is based are explained to us. We have a series of warriors that we will control in turn, in a scenario divided into squares by which we will have to move them to attack the enemy troops. Each character has its strengths and weaknesses, so you have to think each movement well. Depending on the character and their placement, they themselves will choose who they attack, in an unusual decision in the genre but here it works very well, giving more dynamism and freshness to the fighting.
For example, a warrior with a shield will be ideal to stop the attacks in the form of arrows or shots from a distance, a warrior with a mace will be appropriate to attack enemies with a helmet, we will also have other characters that can attack from afar, others that will heal the comrades, ... And, in addition, we can recruit new members if we manage to throw a capture strategy to the last enemy standing during a battle. Despite its simple and childish appearance, it hides a more strategic and profound proposal than it seems, being a product that is great for both newbies in the genre as well as veterans.
Extra Options
Logically, those more seasoned in this genre will have some extra options to make it more "interesting". For example, they can activate the permanent death of the characters or go directly to the level of difficulty madness. Of course, be careful because one of the defects of the game is that the difficulty curve is not always well calibrated. There are easy battles and, suddenly, other very difficult ones. Returning to the topic, once the tutorial is over and the city is unblocked (which will be the command center), the real game will begin. There we can visit the store to buy new items, weapons or warriors, customize our characters, visit the Pit to play tournaments in exchange for juicy rewards or choose the next main or secondary mission that we want to perform., The interface is unfinished in which to customize the characters. It lacks information and, at times, it is not really clear if one weapon is more appropriate than another.
Gameplay
Once the mission is selected, we must move through a map to find its location, finding enemies along the way that will serve to fight and level up our team. The missions and their script are frankly good, with a humor that is impossible that we can not get some laughter. In addition, the secondary missions also have their own history and are not put at all as a filler. They are almost as fun as the main ones. The variety of situations and enemies is very considerable, always finding us with new surprises and typologies of confrontations that will make us vary the tactics if we want to survive.
After each battle, we will get loot in the form of coins to spend in the store, experience and many items, which can be both aesthetic and new weapons that equip the characters. For its part, the battles are frankly entertaining, with variations and surprises that appear when you least expect and full of dialogues that make us always play with a smile on the mouth. The gore and the brutality are very present, making the combats a whole festival of blood and destruction.
There are not many main history missions, but that does not mean we have to play for a while. There are lots of side missions and many, many things to unlock. The items to be unlocked count to hundreds and, counting that we can play the adventure cooperatively (2 players locally or online) and that we have the Pit to play tournaments against the CPU or other players (up to 4) online in its competitive mode , there is a game to play. We also have daily challenges, events ... You can not ask for much more.
Graphics/ Sounds
Visually it stands out, mainly, for its artistic design. We already knew that The Behemot has a hand for this and has again achieved a title that comes through the eyes despite the simplicity of its graphics. The nice animations and its colorful world have convinced us, even though it is not a technical portent. For its part, the sound effects are at a good level and the music is catchy. However, where it shines, it is in the voice dubbing (in English, of course). Luckily, to understand all the jokes and what the narrator says, we find the game perfectly subtitled.

Conclusion
Pit People already showed good manners in its Game Preview version and, finally, it has been confirmed. This is a remarkable video game of turn-based combat, hilarious, with a great sense of humor and a more than acceptable life. In addition, it is enjoyable for newbies of the genre as well as for the most seasoned and regardless of whether you are going to play alone or in the company of friends. It adapts to any situation and is enormously addictive in any way.
