Avocado Plants And Why I Stopped Using SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #steemit7 years ago

I was there during the summer explosion last year. Steemit opened my eyes to the potentials of social media based on decentralization and the use of incentives. It gave me the right push to start with a documentary project which had been on my mind for at least six months. It was on!

I started with the Future Food Documentary Project September 2016. Living on Meal Replacement Powder (MRP) such as Soylent Soylent for 12 months. I wanted to find out what would happen to my life once I stopped being a part of the food culture that surrounds me. Amsterdam based brand Jimmy Joy was the first brand that provided me with almost two months worth of MRP and from their on the ball started rolling. I borrowed money to buy new camera gear, made a few bets that I would make that film and that I would NOT eat real food for twelve months. It was on.

One of the things that got me super excited about this project was the fact that my introduction to Steemit was superb. I did not work that summer. I was able to pay my bills while writing about the film I was going to make. Amazing!

Vlog Life

I started vlogging about my experiences on MRP food. Making quality vlogs takes time. I'm a perfectionist so edit wise I spend quite some hours to get these videos on point. All good, part of the job I thought. These vlogs (now all deleted, I get to that later) kind of opened the doors to Steemfest 2016 where I was responsible for a series of interviews with guest speakers like this one with @Ned. Super exciting times!

Blurry Vision

Then around Christmas, for some reason, everything became a bit blurry. It was as if I did not see things so clear anymore. What do you want to tell with this film? It was like a slap in the face at the time because I was under the impression that I had it all figured out. So I did what you should NOT do in times like these; act on your emotions. I needed more focus so I had to stop with the time-consuming process of vlog making as well as posting on Steemit. I figured that I wanted to make a film. You know, one that plays in cinemas. If I wanted to do this then why was I wasting my time becoming a vlogger/blogger? I deleted all the YouTube videos and stopped writing on Steemit.

But when you are working on a project which asks a lot of you on a personal level sometimes you have to make those drastic decisions to move forward. Looking back I could have done a lot of other things that would have made it possible to continue with vlogging/blogging while also put more focus on the film it self, but that's all in retrospect. Everybody knows that mesmerizing the past is not the way to best way to make progress.

Long story short; I came up with a new storyline that I would not have come up with if it wasn't for those drastic decisions. This new story line made it possible to see everything very clear. It opened lots of doors, and within no time I was set up with many different MRP brand sponsors. These sponsors made it possible to eat for free, so I saved a lot of money which I needed after Christmas because there were hardly any jobs coming in that time. Steem was very low that time which made it even less attractive to spend time writing posts.

And I know that might sound very opportunistic, but I have to say it is a significant part of the motivation to post on Steemit, at least for me. So major shout outs to those who kept posting and stayed active on Steemit while the price dropped to about 7 cents. I simply couldn't find the motivation.

Avocado

Then Couple of weeks ago I was working on my mini garden on top of my washing machine, and I thought to myself; wow, these avocado plants came a long way! That's when a lightbulb was turned on, and I saw EVERYTHING in perspective. By that time I've had been using Nootropics on a daily base for about four months, and I believe that my new cognitive enhancers partly energized that light bulb. But more about that in another post.

Everybody that grows avocado plants knows it takes a lot of patience. The pit has to sit in water for about 2 to 3 months before it starts to grow a root. During this time you have to give it fresh water every 2 to 3 days or so. It's like a baby or a pet! The moment the pit breaks and you start to see the root coming out from under is a very rewarding feeling. Your patience finally pays off, and you get a little rush of excitement.

This plant grew from a pit that I took out of an avocado around the time I first started posting on Steemit

The avocado plants made me realize that what I had begun on Steemit, and turned into a project that is currently changing my life. Again, some of you might think I'm an opportunist, and I can't blame you. On top of that, I've also emptied out my wallet and have almost no Steem Power left. I'll explain why I did this in my next post. It's all part of a big puzzle that will show the potential Steemit and crypto have.

Thank you so much for reading this, and I hope you'll be reading the following posts as well.
