Program Gremlin : Snag Drones in Midair
Gremlin is a US military program designed to launch and retrieve pilot drones in the mid air. According to DARPA - Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Gremlin is a densed group of drones that can be launched from a manned aircraft. It will not only allow the capability of launching droned in the mid air but also call them back when needed.
DARPA initiated the first phase of the Gremlin in 2015 which then names as proof-of-concept. Now it is moving to the second phase and according to Scott Wierzbanowski, Program Manager of DARPA, which will basically include the development of two ideas. Phase 2 will be focussed on completing Gremlin Designs for Gremlin drone demonstration.
The program will eventually move to the third phase which will include the full scale system demonstration which will involve the final drone launch and its recovery. DARPA has scheduled to conduct flight tests for Gremlin in 2019.
