Day 13 of Steemit School Poetry: PEACE

in #steemitschoolpoetry6 years ago (edited)

Hi Friends,
We are moving forward. Today, I did offend a good friend of mine. And it weighed on my mind till I settled it. So this poem was influenced by today's near disarray.

Peace

The things we do for peace.
The miles we walk on thorns
So that we can keep our lives
Away from daggers, stones and insults.

The things we do for peace.
We drink in bottles and bottles
Of spite, of discountenance
Just so we can share a real bottle of beer
With friends.

The things we do for peace.
Home broiling in heat - battery - is fanned
By an asthmatic wife
To keep the children asleep
And well.

The things we do for peace.
John Lennon asked for peace,
Begged for peace.
And he got it,
But not without losing his life
To a headless gunman.

Oh, this is interesting. When I got to "the miles we run on thorns," I was hooked. That's a great line. We read your words and understand that obtaining peace comes with a high price.

If you don't mind a gentle comment, it feels like the last stanza could be cut and developed into its own poem. But that's just my (humble) opinion. Nice work -- I am following your feed now and look forward to seeing more.

Thank you a lot @laurawhite. Your comment is highly appreciated. Based on your advice, I will definitely write a poem today to that effect. Thank you for this.
