Tesla Roadster in Space?

in #science8 years ago

Wonderboy Elon Musk has shot his Tesla Roadster into space because a car in space is really what our planet in turmoil need right now.
Unless this is the first one of the rest of the cars.
Personally I would have taken an old diesel car.

Of course many people claim it is fake and CGI. I don’t know. It would be interesting to see if someone can replicate this scene in Blender.

I think it’s real however I have some observations that made my eyebrows twits.

Here is a live feed of Starman:

First thing I noticed was the lack of stars. Why do we see stars here but not in the Starman footage?

We can see them here:

  • This car must be in a much higher orbit than The International Space Station because earth in the Starman footage looks much smaller.

  • I haven’t seen any landmass yet on the earth in the footage and I have checked a couple of times during the day, evening and night.

  • The earth seems stationary to me, it supposed to spin 108.000 km/hour but I can’t see that in the footage.

  • The car is orbiting with 142.000 m/h but to me it seems stationary as well because till now it always have been in front of the sunny side of the earth. It seems only spinning to me.

  • The earth is perfectly round, while scientists say it looks more like pear shaped.

  • Shouldn’t we be able to see the ISS passing by? It would be nice if we can see the roadster from the ISS (could be too small).

  • What are those passing lights in the background? Satellites? Speaking of which shouldn’t we see more of those in all sort of sizes since we have about 6000+ up there?

So what do you think Fake or Real?

very interesting post, good luck for you

Hmm all decent points. Only one I think I can answer mostly. The earth is more pear shaped, but only if you consider only the land. So if the water were not there, the huge inward dips would make it pear shaped. Or at least thats what I thought when I heard people say that. I feel like it passed satellites distance pretty quickly, and as you were watching it was a good distance passed the space station. and at that height the circumfrence is bigger, so the chances of it flying by the space station become more rare if that makes any sense. This is all educated guesses though. And I think it was real
