Time to recharge
Self-care is a neglected aspect by most teachers who invest their time in educating other children who are not theirs.
Many teachers return home with all their energy used up in planning lessons to conducting them leading to assignments to be graded after school.
It is always great to hear praises but all their spirit can be sucked dry when they get a scolding by their principal or unreasonable parents who make a big fuss over small matters.
Teachers are not just teachers. They can be parents at home. They can be caregiving to their aged parents. They can also be the housekeeper.
Teachers need to play many roles outside the school.
Without good self-care, everything can be affected.
It will be hard to concentrate in school or outside school.
Good self-care is not just for themselves but for the responsible that they have.
Recall why you join teaching
This is an important step where you recall why you join teaching to rekindle the positivity in you as well as your passion.
Very often a good self-care can start from the mind where you embark your teaching journey positively as you regularly revisit your first intention of joining teaching.
By doing so, you can find yourself being positive to new policy and changes that you need to adapt as teaching is really core passion.
Teachers who impacted and inspired you when you were a student.
Family members who were teachers who inspired you
Desire to make the change in students
Desire to instil the love and joy of learning
Recall and revisit what is your reason for joining teaching today.
What makes teaching meaningful to you?
Recall after all these years, what was the impactful moment that made you feel that your contribution was worth it.
An ex-student who visited and shared his/her gratitude
A rebellious child who managed to change
Grateful parents
Written notes from your students
Precious memories of the bonding you have with your students
Recall what makes teaching worthwhile for you today.
Look at these areas that people draw their energy from and identify how you regain your energy.
Physical – exercise, nutrition, sleep, massage etc
Mental/Psychological – learning, interest, reflecting etc
Emotional – crying, laughing, excitement etc
Social – communicating with others, spending time with people etc
Spiritual – Having a goal/vision that leads to connectedness with a
greater purpose.
The following are just simple examples of how the different dimension can interlink:
During socialising, a person’s emotional and mental state can be positively affected.
When a person touches his/her spiritual dimension, it can lead to the activation of having a vision to exercise (physical) or self-motivated that leads to communication.
In conclusion
Learn to calm yourself and revisit your vision for being a teacher.
Identify what recharge you and find time for yourself.
When you choose not to rest, your body may just force you to rest when you fall seriously ill physically or mentally.
Problems can be there but with a different mindset after a break, you may just be able to approach it with a positive attitude for a change or breakthrough.
Expect good outcome with a different action plan to see a different result.

I love this one. There should be a lot more comments. This is a big issue with teachers in Korea. There is a petition going around this week in Korea by more than 9,000 people to take away the summer vacation and winter vacation of teachers.
These teachers leave everything behind for the kids and have to get back their health and basic things they couldn't do.
Teachers definitely deserve their rest. Without good mental health and self-care, they may not be able to educate the students effectively in their best forms.
