Red packet during Chinese New Year

For Chinese, red is auspicious colour that brings good fortune. Many Chinese will wear red during Chinese New Year. Married adults will also give red packet that is filled with money in double digit to the unmarried, mostly for children.

In ancient China, there was a demon who terrorised children that caused them to be sick and even death. Some gods transformed themselves into coins where they were placed in red paper and placed under the child's pillow as a tailsman to guard over the child from the demon. Red packet money is literally meant age-suppressing money. Over time, it became a tradition in giving red envelops with notes.

The Chinese also give out red eggs when a new child is borned to this earth. Red is a lucky colour but it would not be used during funeral. Usually, one is only allowed to wear dark colours or white during funerals.

The colour of red in Singapore flag

There are many countries that use red as part of the colour for their national flag.

In Singapore, Red stands for universal brotherhood and equality of man. Singapore is really a multiracial society where every race has an equal right and no race is supposed to be above another race.

Since Singapore is a very small country, one of the most important resources is really the human resource. Peace and harmony among different races is extremely important in Singapore.

Singapore children are taught about racial harmony through social studies and different national education events yearly. During National Day, you would see almost everyone will wear red.

Red in Christianity

Many churches do have holy communion where they have bread and a cup of red drink. The bread is taken as a remembrance of the body of Jesus while the red drink symoblized the blood of Jesus. Holy communion is taken to remember what Jesus has done for Christian at the cross where a man who committed no sin but took the place of sinners so that they may have freedom from sin and sicknesses.

Committing suicide while wearing red

Some believed that it was possible for one to take revenge on someone you have bitterness toward by committing suicide while wearing red. The deceased would turn into an angry ghost in red and would haunt and take revenge on the one with bitterness with.

Animal sacrifice

In the bible, ancient people had animal sacrifice where the animal supposed to take their place for the sins that they had committed. By doing so, their sins would be transferred to the animal and the animal would be killed in their place. We can only imagine the amount of blood sacrifices.

Even in modern days, there are some religions still practising this custom annually. It is a tradition that passes down from generations to generations.

Red in cryptocurrency

We all do not like red for cryptocurrency. Whenever it is red, it would mean our investment is decreasing in value. Green is our favourite colour. Whenever we see red, the matured investors would advise not to sell but stay calmed and wait for it to rise. As long as you don't sell in panic, you have not lost. You are just holding coins that decrease in value but it can rise again in time to come.

This is really a random post. Since Chinese New Year is around the corner in a few hours, I decided to write some things about red. I wonder how it would turn out.
